The hotel is about 5-10 mins walk from the train/bus station, *away* from the old town, meaning it takes about 20 mins to walk to the old town. The area however seems fine.
My rooms was comfortable spotless and had pretty much everything I needed. Of course, I could have wanted a TV that was 2 metres wide, but that kind of room usually costs a few hundred euros per night. All the staff I spoke to could easily converse in very good english
Breakfast was ample - standard bread, jams, meat, cheeses and cooked eggs and covered me for lunch.
The rates you can get on the hotel website, are rather better than they will quote you on the phone. Turning up at almost midnight seemed to be no problem (and no I hadn't paid a deposit) - they held the room for me and had the registration form ready when I arrived. If however you're really counting the pennies, then you can probably find rooms in Lubeck for less money.
The hotel makes a big play of their spa and wellness centre, but apart from getting lost on the way to breakfast and someone in the spa giving me directions to the food, I can't comment
Overall, it's the kind of midrange hotel you expect from the Germans. Well managed, efficient, courteous staff and everything works but lacking in personality
