I just returned from four days in Lubeck, and the only thing I would change (next time) is somewhat warmer weather. (It was about zero F while I was there.) I paid for a "superior single" for the extra space, as it was a room with two twin beds, flush against the sidewalls of the room. The bathroom is petite, but quite adequate for one. Plenty of hot water. Everything very clean and well-cared for.
This was my second trip to Lubeck (first was in 2006) and I wanted a hotel with real personality and a beautiful view: Hotel Jensen was perfect.
First, Hotel Jensen is in an historical building directly on the waterfront. I was on the second floor ("First Floor" in Europe) with a spectacular view over the Holstentor, the symbol of Lubeck and an interesting museum inside.
Second, everyone at the Reception was superbly helpful, with all kinds of requests. There is a computer with internet connection at one side of the reception desk, free to use, which took care of most of my information needs. You get one free hour of internet connect time in your room per 24 hours, and 24 hours costs about 6 Euro.
Third, the food at breakfast and in the connected restaurant was simply outstanding. I usually try several restaurants for the sake of variety, but my first night's dinner at the Yachtzimmer Restaurant was excellent and there were so many attractive options I wanted to try, I ate there every night of my stay.
Fourth, and not last, the location is perfect for visiting the sights of Lubeck. Everything is in walking distance, including the train and bus stations, and the tourist sights of the old town. Do try to see the UNESCO-funded archaeological excavations going--the day I went it was closed because it was too cold to do any work.
