“A perfect hotel in a perfect location! And superb meals in the adjoining restaurant”

I just returned from four days in Lubeck, and the only thing I would change (next time) is somewhat warmer weather. (It was about zero F while I was there.) I paid for a "superior single" for the extra space, as it was a room with two twin beds, flush against the sidewalls of the room. The bathroom is petite, but quite adequate for one. Plenty of hot water. Everything very clean and well-cared for.

This was my second trip to Lubeck (first was in 2006) and I wanted a hotel with real personality and a beautiful view: Hotel Jensen was perfect.

First, Hotel Jensen is in an historical building directly on the waterfront. I was on the second floor ("First Floor" in Europe) with a spectacular view over the Holstentor, the symbol of Lubeck and an interesting museum inside.

Second, everyone at the Reception was superbly helpful, with all kinds of requests. There is a computer with internet connection at one side of the reception desk, free to use, which took care of most of my information needs. You get one free hour of internet connect time in your room per 24 hours, and 24 hours costs about 6 Euro.

Third, the food at breakfast and in the connected restaurant was simply outstanding. I usually try several restaurants for the sake of variety, but my first night's dinner at the Yachtzimmer Restaurant was excellent and there were so many attractive options I wanted to try, I ate there every night of my stay.

Fourth, and not last, the location is perfect for visiting the sights of Lubeck. Everything is in walking distance, including the train and bus stations, and the tourist sights of the old town. Do try to see the UNESCO-funded archaeological excavations going--the day I went it was closed because it was too cold to do any work.

Room Tip: If you ask for a room on the front, you will have a view of the water and of the Holstentor. This m...

“Great Hotel in a Perfect Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This hotel was right on the waterfront, with a view of the Holstentor from our window. The old town was immediately adjacent. The room size was ample for the price. All areas of the hotel were spotlessly clean. The front desk staff spoke fluent English and were always ready to be helpful. The breakfast was served in a beautiful room and was ample.

“A brilliant hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

This was the second time we stayed at this excellently situated hotel.
On our way by car from the south of France to Norway, we decided in Bavaria, to continue to Lübeck in order to beat the traffic next morning. We made a phone call to this hotel as we've stayed here before, and were quite satisfied then. They had one room available, and when I told the lovely girl on the phone, that we've stayed there before, she was absolutely thrilled. Wishing us the warmest welcome I've ever heard. The hotel is situated just by the river Trave, and in the middle of the city. With their own car-park it's no problem bringing the car. You must off load outside the entrance door first, and drive to the parking house on the other side of the river, but it takes apx. 3 minutes to walk back, so that is perfectly all-right.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms good sized with good beds. The only negative thing which can not be blamed at the hotel, are the numbers of young tourists partying outside by the river bed through the night. Breaking glass bottles and shouting and making a hell of noice. But of course that's nothing the hotel can do anything about. We slept through it anyway, to wake up the next morning to a fantastic breakfast. You can sit for a hour and enjoy if you want to. Talking about food, the first time we were there, we dined in the hotel restaurant situated just beside the hotel-entrance with it's own door. Lovely staff and the food was excellent.
I am stilled amazed that it is possible to find such a decent hotel for a prize like that anywhere in Europe. We paid 105 Euros for the room which was in fact a 3 bed room and as mentioned before the only one available. That included the breakfast. It doesn't come much better than that.

“Very Friendly, Ideal Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2011

The Ringhotel Jensen in Lübeck is ideally located just inside the old town with a great position overlooking the waterfront. The price was remarkably good value for the place it is in. The good location and price are complemented by the friendliest hotel staff I have so far encountered. The front desk were very positive and encouraging of use of their language to varying degrees of customer competency while also of course speaking tourist languages.

The breakfast buffet is a traditional north German spread containing various meats, cereals, fruits, yoghurts, and of course plenty of breads. The meal room has an excellent ambience because the decor is exactly what on would hope to see in the Hanseatic capital - with enough touch of wood to place it nicely in the setting.

The rooms are cosy and clean. There is a little bit of noise from the waterfront but that is to be expected. The attached restaurant next door is popular with guests who like that sort of food.

If staying in Lübeck check out this one as a good place to stay.
