The good points:
- Located within easy walking distance of the city centre.
- Though the inside garage is available for a fee, it is possible to park outside for free. Parking spaces are limited but I never had a problem and left the rental car outside.
-The rooms are quite large for European standards and most amenities one would expect are present.
- Reception staff is friendly and helpful.
- Christmas decoration was very nice.
- Good breakfast buffet though I was disappointed by the quality of the bread which should be a highlight in Germany.
The bad points:
- I do not like it when my feet or my slippers get dirty from dust lying around on the floor.
- I do not like finding hairs on the bathroom floor.
- I do not like finding a large, darkish stain on the sofa of the bedroom.
- The air conditioning is also the heater. I was sorry to have to use it (below freezing point outside) because it makes a terrible noise.
- I do not like being told that for environmentally correct reasons, I am given Lux and Dove soaps in dispensers (the cheapest possible soaps) but should I so wish to, I can buy myself better stuff at the hotel shop (in plastic bottles of course). Who exactly are we fooling here? It's an easy way to save money for Scandic whilst making it look as though it's environmentally friendly.
- When ordering still water, I do not like being automatically brought tap water and then being told that Scandic has its own water system (yeah, tap) and that one Swedish crown goes to Scandic's sustainability fund. It is unclear whether or not that crown was actually paid by me or by Scandic. Whatever the case may be, I would have liked to have a choice between tap water and mineral water but was not given that choice. I'm glad to know that a crown goes to a special fund but I am staying in Germany where the currency to the best of my knowledge is the Euro. Again, who are we fooling here, how much money does Scandic save by serving tap water while explaining that it has its own water system?
- Wine list does not include the winery names.
- The food is nothing to write home about.
A tip: in the summer, ask for rooms on the quiet side. I imagine that with windows open, it can get quite noisy on the street side, especially as there are many bus stops opposite (which can come in handy). When the windows are closed, it is quiet. The noise actually comes from other guests who bellow in the corridors.
