I had to visit a factory site nearby, so I had emailed the Radisson to find out how much it would cost to get a taxi from Hamburg airport. Not only did Ms Andrea give me the price, she booked the car and charged it to my room! So I had the pleasure of driver Michael from City Cabs - a very nice guy with excellent English. The receptionist did the same for my trip next morning to the factory, and asked for my frequent flyer card without my prompting.
Check in was busy, there were a couple of big groups staying; I didn't arrive until late in the evening, and the restaurant was closed. I thought about sitting in the bar for a wind down drink, however it was busy, and dark. Not somewhere for a quiet beer.
My room was really nice, big bed, desk area, seating area in a bay window area. There were wooden venetian blinds and curtains to pull across in front of these, so noise from the road outside. If I had a beef it would be that the corridor for the rooms are all off a central atrium that opens onto the bars, eating areas and reception - and the sound travels. Housekeeping started early too, lots of banging doors.
The bed was sooooo comfortable! No evil tempur mattress topper, plumpy pillows - though having 2 single duvets on a double bed always strikes me as odd, it's definitely a European thing. There were also bathrobes and slippers, plus a little chocolate which was very welcome.
The bathroom was clean, the loo roll was decent quality, there were cotton buds, face flannels, a decent hair dryer and - thanks goodness - a mini bar. The saviour of the late arrival after the offering of a buttered pretzel roll on the Lufthanza flight (which was late out of LHR, thanks BAA). The wi-fi is free, and the signal good didn't drop out whilst I was working.
I didn't get here early enough to try the restaurants, and after a couple of hours work, I decided to sleep in, so no idea what breakfast was like.
Check out was equally busy, and the girls just as helpful. I also noticed that they have a set of steps in primary colours for kids to check in, which was cute.
I hope to go back to Lubeck someday, I'm told it has one of the oldest Christmas markets in Germany!
