We booked this hotel for one night, as a good friend was getting married! If we visit Luebeck again, we would aim to book here again. Initially we were booked in the Ibis hotel down the road, but were glad to have stayed here for one night. The reception is great, in fact the whole ship theme throughout the hotel is unique, and the wee bar give you a feel you could be in a bar on a ship itself. Our room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the road, and one of the best greek restaurants we have ever ate in. The room was spacious, very clean, and a fanatstic shower room, basically if you had a rough night, the shower is the best way to waken up, it will litterally blast you away. Staff were always friendly and helpful, and the breakfast in the morning was well decorated, varied, and great choices from either continental to a kind of british breakfast... This hotel would suit if you either are on business or a short break away, specially for visiting Luebeck which is a lovely old shipping town.

This hotel is slightly out of town, but has parking and is on a bus route. The hotel is quaint, but modern and the staff are very helpful. Rooms are big and airy and our only complaint is the usual German pillows which always seem too thin and unsupportive.
Breakfast was pretty good with a good mix of Continental, plus hot bacon egg and sausage.
We paid 89 euro per night and at that rate it is great value

We stayed a couple of nights in April 2008. We booked through internet and got a price of about 150 Euros for our two nights. The room was very spacious with plenty of room for the bed sofa provided for our son. The bathroom had shower and looked very nice. The room was very clean and nicely furnished including a place to sit and plan your day, very good.

Reception was helpful and polite and as for language you could with some difficulties use English. Parking was convenient in their garage at a cost of 5 Euros a night.

The restaurant was nice and the food we tried was reasonable priced and fine. Their schnitzel was very good, as usual in Germany. It said you should ask for the child menu in the menu and when you did the answer was that we do not have one! We had to suggest making something like pancakes and this they did for us, so at the end of the day it was fine.

Breakfast was very good with hot and cold dishes. Just make sure you do not time your breakfast with a bus load of tourists as it will be difficult to find a seat and the goodies have a tendency to be gone and the staff has problems in getting it filled, but they did work hard to keep the tables filled. We waited 15 minutes for the bus group to leave and had a very nice start of the day.

The back of the hotel is facing a lovely park and the front the street. Try to get a room facing the park as the traffic might disturb you. You will hear other guests checking in to their rooms as they walk around in their room doing god knows what!

I suggest you use this hotel if you have a car as you otherwise might feel a bit off.

All in all a good stay with some disturbance of traffic and others moving around above.

I searched and searched for weeks trying to find a reasonably priced hotel for our party of 7 in the Luebeck area. Some of the prices were insane. Then I stumbled upon Bookings.com. When I plugged in my dates and what looked like a castle popped-up it piqued my interest. Closer inspection revealed that it wasn't a castle hotel but a modern hotel modeled after the Holstentor in Altstadt Luebeck.

What really sold me was that the price was right in the ballpark we were looking for. At some of the other accomodations I had booked throughout Germany I usually had to stay at a small Pension or Zimmer Frei to keep our room costs below $75 a night. Here in Luebeck I was looking at rooms well below that price and with buffet breakfast thrown in.

Fast forward a few months to our arrival in Luebeck: We had a tough time finding the Golden Tulip because my GPS thought the street it was on was elsewhere in town. When we found it though we were suitably impressed.

Modern, Scandanavian chic decor, huge rooms, mini-bar, TV's that worked, modern plumbing, comfortable beds and a huge buffet breakfast. The breakfast not only offered the traditional German goodies like cold cuts, cheese, hard rolls, lots of cereal, soft-boiled eggs and yoghurt, but they also had eggs, sausage and poatoes. Everything an American tourist or businessman misses from back home. The only complaints were having to pay for parking in the big, well-protected underground garage and the sound of passerbys outside our rooms as they walked on the beautiful uncarpeted wooden floors.

Great helpful staff who were great with directions and suggestions of where to eat on Christmas Eve when 99% of businesses were shutdown.
