This hotel is now called Hotel Kieler Förde. The Tourist Information Center in the Kiel Hbf recommended it when I was asking for a reasonably priced hotel near a beach. I thought the price was fair, but the beach access was somewhat disappointing.

The view of the förde from the hotel and restaurant is marred by the shipyards across the street (between the hotel and the water). The little town of Friedrichsort is cute, and about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. Access to the beach was an even longer walk, about 30 minutes. Once I was there, though, the beach was great.

The staff was very nice and helpful, the room was nice and very clean, good/free WLAN access, and the food was YUMMY!

If you have your own car and are looking for a place to stay on the förde without paying a lot, I would recommend this place. FYI - there was lots of parking at the hotel. If you are relying on public transportation and your feet, look elsewhere. I traveled there by ferry from Kiel, fun ferry ride but a 20 minute walk without many directional signs to the hotel. The Kiel bus is very convenient to the hotel, though.

I hope the current owners can eventually upgrade to a hotel in a better location because they are doing a nice job with this hotel. Too bad they can't get rid of the shipyards across the street!
