This is wonderful place to enjoy a lovely environment. The location is superb and the facilities are beautiful.

This place was a pleasant surprise, as I was unsure what I would find in this former East German city. The locale is wonderful for a "city" hotel, surrounded by parkland and on the banks of the Elbe. I was able to keep my window open at night and hear nothing more than birds in the morning. The room was nice: not modern, but very comfortable with feather pillows and down comforter. the only negative was the lack of any amenities in the bathroom: only soap dispensers at the sink and shower. Not a big deal, but not something I would expect at a higher end hotel like this.
Breakfast buffet was wonderful and very German. Dinner was good with many different choices. The bar was also very comfortable and inviting.
I've also stayed at the Maritim in Magdeburg, and this is definitely a few steps above.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Herrenkrug Parkhotel. The hotel is like an old manor house located in a forest and quite out of the city center. In fact there is nothing around it so if you need a convenience store or a pharmacy etc it would be really difficult. The staff are good but their English is not up to the mark. Even the information booklets as well as the comments card etc in the room are all in German so its clear that the hotel is mainly geared up to German guests than foreigners. Having said that, check in was swift and there were carts available to tag your bags up to your room making it obvious that there is no bellman in the property. The hotel is a low rise and my room was on the second floor facing the forest where at times I could see deer prancing. The room size was good and had high speed wireless internet which made life miserable for me at times . Luckily the providing company waived off the charges when I contacted them as the hotel could not solve anything. Bathroom was average size and shampoo and bath soap were in a huge container and had to be squeezed out - just like in public toilets. There is no room service either. Breakfast was in a grand restaurant and had the typical German fare once again. Overall the hotel is like a forest resort area good for relaxation but can be difficult for Western travelers. For access to the city center, a tram station was present 600 meters away which took directly to the town center. Probably if I were to return to Magdeburg, I would stay at the Maritim hotel next time.

We had a great time in this modern appointed but 100 year old hotel. The hotel was very quiet but really nice. THe pool and spa is as nice as any 5 star hotel. THe location is on the River Elba as part of a very large park setting. The restaurant and bar were great and the prices were reasonable. Pleasantly surprised!
