I should preface my comments by stating that I haven't stayed at any other hotels in Magdeburg. I will say that this hotel by European standards is top notch. The location is very nice if you plan on shopping or sightseeing. There are plenty of shops within two blocks walk out the back lobby doors. There is a tram that runs directly behind the lobby as well, I believe one street over. Should you not want to venture out into the city, the two restaurants located in the hotel are first class. Beware of the breakfast buffet, it is very good but pricey as well at 13 euros. The Christmas Market is a short three blocks away if you should happen to be there during December.
As for the rooms, they are quite large although the only beds are doubles(I pushed mine together and was comfortable). There is no AC working during the winter months....I didn't consider Sept. a winter month but they do. And although the windows do open a little it can still become stuffy during the night.
The parking garage is quite expensive as well at about 18 euros per day, all of the add ons can push your stay up past the 200 euro per night mark if you aren't careful
