i have stayed at the intercity Dresden a number of times and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Dresden - especially those travelling by train. the hotel is a great value. the rooms and balance of hotel are quiet, clean, modern - anyone who says otherwise just doesn't get it

this is the hotel standard we hope others can meet, but rarely do, for much less than 100 euro a night.

Across and a slight walk left from the hauptbahnhof so perfect for rail travelers. No charm, square concrete communist-looking building but all one needs for comfort (liquid soap dispensers only, no lotion in nice bathrooms) and cleanliness. Large lobby and lounge area with public computer for a fee, Since some Intercitys have free use, always ask . Desk staff is efficient. Abundant breakfast buffet may be included if a "65 Plus" rate or other special and is very good, otherwise fairly expensive. Their free local transportation pass is invaluable for returning to the hotel after a long walk across town to the river and main sights or returning from a late night concert as so many trams go to the bahnhof and thus to your hotel. Dresden is now a bustling and prosperous city well worth a visit and the Intercity is a good moderate choise as a hotel.

The InterCity Hotel is located directly across from the main train station in Dresden. Arriving from the airport is incredibly easy. Before you exit the airport, you will see a sign that reads "S." This sign indicates how to get to the S-bahn. Go down to the lower level and you will find the train platform. Only 1 train so you can't end up lost. Buy your ticket from the ticket machine for 2 Euro. Make sure you also stamp the ticket. There will be a inspector on-board the train to make sure you purchased a ticket. Get off at the stop "Dresden Hauptbahnhof" which is the main station, go down the escalator, look for the sign for Pragger Strasse, cross the street/tram tracks and look to your left and you will see the hotel. You will appreciate the location if it is raining or you have a ton of luggage.
Check-in was smooth. Room was good size with plenty of closet space. In-room safe will hold a laptop; no electric kettle.
I would have given this hotel a 5-star if either free Wifi or free breakfast was included. The Wifi is a little pricey and breakfast is 15 Euro.
For breakfast I went over to the train station and ate at the Marche Restaurant. The breakfast buffet is 13.90 Euro and is incredibly sumptuous. Tell the cashier you would like Wifi and she will give you a small slip of paper with the ID and password - free Internet for 1 hour. The restaurant is very nice. You can also purchase other meals along with breads and rolls to take away.
Pretty much everything is within walking distance from the hotel. The hotel does give you a transit pass which is good on the S-bahn, trams and buses. Get on a tram and ride to end of any line - sort of like a mini sightseeing tour to see what the neighborhoods are like. You can use this transit pass to return to the airport so you don't have to buy a 2 Euro return ticket.
Staff was excellent and housekeeping was very good. I would stay at the InterCity Hotel again if I return to Dresden.

friendly and warm hotel staff, and effective. good conditions and rich and delicious breakfast. it is nearby the main train station and easily to reach the city center. cloase to the christmas marktet.
