Room was a great size, with some modern touches like flat screen TV and recently painted, but bathroom slightly dated (though perfectly clean & acceptable). Hotel is about 30 mins walk from the centre, but only did this walk once as hotel is right on a tram line - so for rest of 3 night stay just bought a day ticket for the tram, which was great value for money as in the end just got the tram everywhere. Stopped in Dresden on way from Prague to Berlin as got such a great rate on this hotel (£35 per room per night) and was worth it - hotel is also just a few tram stops from the Neustadt train station, so handy for day trips and onward travel

I must admit I was slightly 'iffy' about this hotel, especially as I had secured a romm rate of 15 euros per night. As has been noted previously the area is not the most attractive in Dresden.

However, from the moment I was greeted by the English speaking Reception staff I canonly praise the hotels.
The staff were charming and very helpful - giving great food / restaurant recommendations.
The room I had was at the back of the hotel and was probably the quitest room I have ever stayed in. Cable TV, en-suite batthroom with shower. Room nicely decorated and kept spotlessly clean. (No tea/cofee making facilities. Bar in the basement a nice place to relax of an evening. (There is bar and a Chinese restaurant within 100 metres as alternatives). Not being a great fan of Continental breakfasts I didn't eat there - the best local alternatives being the Netto store in Hansa Strasse and the Neustadt station (Currywurst for breakfast !) or one of the many bakers locally.
Yes the hotel is a 20/30 minute walk to the Aldstadt, but what better way to see a different bit of Dresden ?

I would just like to praise the staff once more - service like that can make a holiday.

There isn't alot wrong with this hotel, other than its location. Its just sort of bland. The rooms are smallish and cluttered but not offensive. The staff is pleasant. The breakfast is ok. There were only two real problems. The first is that the non-smoking rooms on the second floor became smoking rooms because the staff smokes in the back patio area and the smoke comes straight up into the rooms. It was pretty bad. The second is the location of the hotel. It is a 15 minute walk from the new station (a very long way from the Haupbahnhoff), which is fine and is a reasonable walk to Neustadt, which is the newer, trendier, back-packer part of town that has some interesting restaurants and bars. The hotel is a long way from the Altstadt or old part of town, which is what the tourists are coming to see. If you don't mind a 40 minute walk or some tram rides (or you have a car) then the location is fine. If you are going to Dresden to see the sites, consider something closer to old town.

The hotel is in Neustadt, a little bit of a hike to the main attractions of Dresden (or about a 7 euro cab ride). The rooms are minimalist, but are clean and the beds are comfortable. Breakfast is decent, but offers the same items daily. The staff were friendly and helpful. Mark proclaims their properties to be "first class 3-star hotels." I have no complaints, but the Alpha is a 3-star at best.
