I found this hotel by doing additional research on the internet because I was interested in staying at a hotel that was near the main train station since we were using rail passes from Prague and on to Berlin, had city transportation nearby, and was less than 100 Euros/night for a double. This hotel is about a 5 minute walk to a tram stop that will take you to the hauptbahnhof in five minutes and the city center in about twelve. You can buy a Dresden pass that covers the trams, busses and major museums from the front desk.
You can walk to the Grosser Garten and Zoo in ten minutes.
The rate includes breakfast with eggs, meats, cheeses, rolls, yogurt and cereals that's a little better than most continental breakfasts.
The lobby has a nice little bar with reasonable prices on good German beer. There is a fast internet connection to the computer in the lobby that you pay .50 Euros/15 minutes into a coin slot like a vending machine.
The staff speak English but the hotel caters primarily to German tourists, business people and those perhaps associated with the university that is right next door. This added to the noise a bit one night with some rowdy fellows celebrating, but no big deal.
The rooms are fairly spacious and clean with large bed, table and chairs and a good shower. There was no a/c in our room but we didn't need it.
The street was for the most part quiet and we felt comfortable and safe at this location.
If you go to Dresden, make sure to save time to see the 'Green Vault' exhibit of the Saxon Kings jewelry and porcelain. It is absolutely amazing. For dining, we enjoyed the biergarten that is in the Neustadt just on the other side of the river with excellent views of the Altstadt skyline and traditional German food at reasonable prices.
Dresden is relatively compact and easy to walk to most of the major sights with quick, modern trams to take you to other areas and back to the hotel. This hotel was well suited for our two days and if you don't need to be right in the center, I recommend it for convenience and value for the price.
