This is an inexpensive hotel located in a quiet residential neighbourhood. It does not look like much from the outside and the inside is definitely not stunning aesthetically. Except for that, there are only pros. Starting with the rates – they are just unbelievably low in comparison to what other hotels in Dresden charge. What’s more – you pay reasonable money and you get a very good service! That does not happen often, does it? I can honestly say that our double room in Prinz Eugen was the cleanest room I ever stayed in. The bathroom was just spotless and was kept so throughout our stay by the hotel staff. The room was enormous and equipped with everything we might need (TV, radio, phone, mini bar, spacious wardrobe, safe box, large and comfortable double bed and a lot of those little hotel things that make your life easier during travel, like a sewing kit, shoe polishing tissues, short city guide etc.). Even though not everyone was a fluent English speaker, the staff was friendly and definitely helpful – geil! As for the out-of-the city centre-location, it proved to be an advantage: the tram station is literally 3 minutes away from Prinz Eugen, trams going to the centre leave every 10 minutes (the breaks are longer in evenings and on weekends) and the tram trip serves as a substitute to the red city tour buses, as you get to see a lot of places (and meet the locals!) on your way. The trip time to Theaterplatz, a central stop, is about 30 minutes. A single ticket is 2 euro but we used a family ticket (for 2 people, 1 day) for 7 euro more often. You can buy the tickets in the hotel, on every tram (the machine accepts coins only) and at most tram stops. We used trams also at night, as we enjoyed the Dresden nightlife and we felt safe at all times. And last but not least, the hotel has its own car park which you get to use for free – contrary to the hotels in the centre, charging a daily fee. Overall, I really recommend Prinz Eugen to everyone who wants to pay decent money and be surprised how much one can get for that.
