“Over rated poor location, great staff, great breakfast but noisy at night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

Sorry to go against the flow, I booked to stay here based on the reviews both here, and on Booking com. so we where disappointed with the reality.

IF YOU HAVE A CAR.....
I would suggest, if only for the breakfast alone, this is a good option, provided you get a 'quiet room' away from traffic and don't want to be able to 'wander' out of the hotel, as its a decent walk, followed by a decent tram ride to the busy areas

However, if you don't have a car, or would prefer to be close to cafes and shops, generally 'life' then I would suggest not to stay here, it is literally on a long busy (with traffic, not shops) street there is only one place to eat which is on the opposite side of the road, and owned by the hotel.

On the positive side the breakfast is great, as are the staff

The rooms are clean and functional, but appear dated, and if you are unlucky enough to get a room with a window onto the street, it is noisy.

The main areas of the hotel are indeed spotlessly clean, and as mentioned, the breakfast is great, just the location and the noise is so off putting personally.

The hotel says it has a relaxation area, which is essentially a wooden sauna and loungers with showers located in the basement.

“Gorgeous hotel, great staff, fantastic restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

1. Was the hotel close to things (e.g. transport, attractions, restaurants)?
10min walk from bus and tram into city. About 15min on tram to city area. No touristy things nearby. No real shops or restaurants nearby, except the associated restaurant across the road, which is worth a visit even if you're not a hotel guest.

2. Was the hotel in a safe area?
Yes.

3. Was there much noise at night?
No. Very quiet residential area.

4. What was the quality and cleanliness of the hotel furniture and fittings like (e.g. bed, lock-up safe, shower)?
Very clean, excellent condition furnishings with a romantic feel. The bed pillows were quite uncomfortable though.

5. Do the hotel staff provide a good service (e.g. competence, attitude, availability)?
Personalised service, very friendly and helpful. Always available.

6. What were the hotel amenities like (e.g. breakfast, restaurant, pool, bar, car parking)?
Nice breakfast spread, but get there early because of a small number of tables. Table clearing suffered a bit during busy times, causing us to have to sit at a dirty table one morning, which wasn't cleared until i pointed it out.

7. Did the room come with extras (e.g. minibar, TV, internet, air-con, tea making facility)?
TV reception down, and no tea facilities in room. Internet for free at reception. Free cakes, sweets and coffee at reception in the afternoon.

8. Other / general comments:
The hotel makes an effort to be a romantic, personalised service. Staff were excellent, just a bit slow in the breakfast room at times. Although the place is a bit out of town it's not hard to use the tram and worth the travel. The restaurant across the road is outstanding!!!

“A pearl of a hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2010

Staying for two nights, I found myself pleasantly surprised again and again. The cosy little hotel is situated in an upscale district of Dresden, about 3 km from the City Centre. Not too easy to find by car (but we live in the age of navigation, so who cares?) but connected via tram and bus to the city centre.

The hotel itself is located in what rather looks like a bourgeouis city-villa of the late 1900s. The reception also gives you the feel of having arrived in that era. The staff is super-helpful, carrying luggage, arranging activities in the city (a visit to the Semper Opera in our case), providing wine and cake in the afternoon and even helping out when our little daughter needs a hot chocolate at 11 pm (free of charge!). Wifi is available free of charge, which is always a huge plus when compared to the ridiculous prizes other hotels and their providers charge.

The room was spacious with a very large bed, drawer, couch and a table plus very good bathroom.

The breakfast was excellent, while reasonably priced. We encountered a few things at the buffett which we hadn't thought of having for breakfast before... I can highly recommend the restaurant "Goldenes Prag" which belongs to the hotel but is situated across the street. Excellent meals in a very nice atmosphere, and again, you don't have to be afraid of the prices.

To put it short - the hotel must have a fifth star hidden somewhere - at the price of a three star hotel.
