I booked this hotel after reading through all the reviews of various hotels and deciding that the Bellevue offered the best value for my dollar. I booked under a prepaid Starwoods special offer back in October: the room rate was 111.30 euros a night, breakfast was an extra (prepaid for 18 euros instead of 21), and the internet was 19 euros for 24 hours. Thus a total rate of 148 euros a night. As it turns out, I really don't think that it was good value at that price.
My room (a starwood preferred guest room, 270) was medium sized but over-full of large (unmatched) furniture - a huge desk, bedside tables, table and chair, cabinet for the tv etc - the room felt crowded and looked clunky. there were no fewer than four over-large table lamps - I had to move them out of the way. The most disappointing factor was the absence of the Heavenly Bed: the website makes much of them, and in fact the room itself has a folder which talks about the Heavenly Bed, but my bed was anything but heavenly: it was both hard and unsupportive - I did not sleep well at all. the pillows were a joke - not sure what they were made of, but there were a lot of lumps and they just dissolved when you applied pressure, absolutely no neck support at all. I woke up each morning in pain. The bed linens were likewise, not very good quality. Adding to the misery was the fact that my room overlooked a very busy street - even with the windows closed, the roar was incessant. I was informed that all of the river side rooms were booked, but after an inspection was informed that i could upgrade for a fee to a better room, but with only one night remaining, I declined.
The bathroom had a shower over bath - the water pressure was nothing great, and the bath was extremely narrow.
The room was very clean, and was serviced efficiently each day.
I had a room service breakfast and it was served promptly and hot. One morning I had breakfast down in the Palais restaurant - think of every bad wedding reception you have been to and that describes the restaurant, a huge space with absolutely no charm at all. Wait staff stand around the room waiting to whisk your plates away - it might have been the hour of the day but they had little to do and it felt odd to be stared at while eating breakfast. The breakfast itself was very good, excellent range of items, but I would not have gone down to the restaurant again.
After all this gloom, the service was good, the desk staff were cheerful and helpful. The location was fantastic - the walk across the Augustusbrucke was beautiful, and Dresden itself is lovely. The internet (19 euros for 24 hours, 8 euros for one hour) was extremely fast and efficient.
Room Tip: Definitely choose a room away from the street side, and enquire about the type of mattress in your r...
