This provides what one expects from a modern mid ranking chain hotel: decent if small rooms; good sound insulation; well trained staff. It fully met our requirements. However, 'aldstadt' in the title is a little misleading. It's on the extreme North East of the Innere Aldstadt (near to Dresden Mitte S-Bahn station), so a bit of a schlep to the sights. For those not wanting a ten minute walk there is always the very reliable strassenbahn network. Why were we there? To see Arabella at the Semperoper (a truly frightful production: one of these years we are going to catch a decent performance there) and Prinz Methusalem at the Dresdner Stadtsoperette (a rather better produced light confection). For anyone wanting to go to the Stadtsoperette (from my three visits there I would certainly recommend it if you have any interest in operetta), it's some way out of the centre at Leuben - take strassenbahn routes 2 or 6 to Pirnaer Landstrasse.
