“Positively surprised by this hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

My wife, my two kids and I were looking for a nice cheap hotel to have a stop-over while travelling back home from our holiday in Austria.
Trier seemed a good choice considering the distances we had to travel.

- The hotel "Am Ufer" offered us a 4-persons room at a vey affordable price. The room had big windows and was really spatious. I have been in "4-persons-rooms" before and they are sometimes very cramped. This was definitively not the case here. The bathroom was ok (only a shower, but some other rooms have bath tubs, I suspect)

- The welcome was friendly and we even got a little map of Trier showing us all the interesting places to visit

- the hotel is not situated in the center of town, but it is very easy to reach by car. You have to walk ten minutes trough quiet streets to get to the center. We thought it was an enjoyable walk

- There is only limited parking space at the hotel. But you can park you car on the street (you will need to pay for this. But prices are quite reaonable)

- Breakfast costs 5 euro per person extra, but it is certainly worth the price. Nothing fancy, but everything you need is basically there (including some smoked salmon, which I absolutely adore for breakfast ;-)

- Every morning you'll find a little paper at the breakfast table with information on everything interesting that is happening that day in town (special performances, tours, guides, ...) A very nice touch.

- You'll find free internet access in the 'lobby' on a desktop computer.
There is Wifi in the hotel. I haven't used it, so I am not quite sure if you have to pay for it...

- You can't pay be credit card, so you will have to use either Maestro or cash....

To conclude: we were only looking for a cheap hotel to sleep in between two long days of traveling by car to get home, but we found a very nice, friendly place to stay...

Room Tip: if you are a couple travelling with two kids and don't mind staying in one room then room 22 is...

“friendly and comfortable!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

This hotel is conveniently located near the river ("am ufer" means on the riverbank) for biking on the Mosel. It's clean, offers cold beer, a selection of wines, and good pizza if you aren't in the mood to go out. The city is just a short walk away for shopping and sight-seeing. Breakfast was excellent! Parking is free and easy. You won't have internet in your room but there is a computer available in the lobby.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back side of the hotel would have less traffic noise, but I found that with the window...

“we felt at home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2009

We stayed here as a result of getting information from the local Tourist Office, the gentleman there was very helpful. The hotel was lovely, clean and friendly, with good food and a short walk to the centre of Trier.

“A Good Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2005

This is a good hotel to stay at when you travel to Trier, Germany's oldest city.

The nice thing about this hotel is that it is outside of the city center. We first booked rooms in a hotel just around the corner from the Porta Nigra, however the reservation fell through and we booked 4 nights at Hotel am Ufer through the city tourist bureau. After wading through the crowds of people in the city center for 3 days, it was refreshing to know we were staying at a hotel where we weren't being jostled and crowded by people, and we could find quiet places to eat and enjoy the view overlooking the Mosel River.

The hotel is a 5-minute walk from the river, and across the street from the Youth Hostel. If you stay here, get a courtyard room. Rooms that overlook the river also overlook a very busy and noisy street. The owner speaks excellent English and is VERY helpful with advice and bookings. Breakfasts are excellent and plentiful and you have your own reserved table with a list of daily events and activities going on in Trier that day.

The beds are comfortable and bathrooms clean and big enough for two people to move about in. Some of the hotel rooms are apartments, but the neighbors were quiet. There are 10 nice little restaurants right on the river within a 5-10 minute walk of the hotel. An underground passageway takes you safely under the busy street traffic. The river is very scenic and tranquil at night, and makes a nice couterpoint to the busy city center and tourist haunts. If you want to, you can walk 20 minutes into town or catch a bus close to the hotel that will take you right to the Porta Nigra.

If you come by car, this hotel has good parking and easy access to the main road that runs along the river. I recommend staying here.

Room rates were reasonable: 80 Euros per night.
