My wife, my two kids and I were looking for a nice cheap hotel to have a stop-over while travelling back home from our holiday in Austria.
Trier seemed a good choice considering the distances we had to travel.
- The hotel "Am Ufer" offered us a 4-persons room at a vey affordable price. The room had big windows and was really spatious. I have been in "4-persons-rooms" before and they are sometimes very cramped. This was definitively not the case here. The bathroom was ok (only a shower, but some other rooms have bath tubs, I suspect)
- The welcome was friendly and we even got a little map of Trier showing us all the interesting places to visit
- the hotel is not situated in the center of town, but it is very easy to reach by car. You have to walk ten minutes trough quiet streets to get to the center. We thought it was an enjoyable walk
- There is only limited parking space at the hotel. But you can park you car on the street (you will need to pay for this. But prices are quite reaonable)
- Breakfast costs 5 euro per person extra, but it is certainly worth the price. Nothing fancy, but everything you need is basically there (including some smoked salmon, which I absolutely adore for breakfast ;-)
- Every morning you'll find a little paper at the breakfast table with information on everything interesting that is happening that day in town (special performances, tours, guides, ...) A very nice touch.
- You'll find free internet access in the 'lobby' on a desktop computer.
There is Wifi in the hotel. I haven't used it, so I am not quite sure if you have to pay for it...
- You can't pay be credit card, so you will have to use either Maestro or cash....
To conclude: we were only looking for a cheap hotel to sleep in between two long days of traveling by car to get home, but we found a very nice, friendly place to stay...
