Booked at the Hotel Paulin in May 2005 for one night for a triple room at 110 Euro/night. Or rather I thought I had booked. We turned up at the hotel at 4.00 pm on a day when it was 38 C in the shade to find that they had no booking for us! Going onto the internet I was able to show them that I had responded to their email offer well within the deadline they set - but somehow my acceptance had not arrived with them.
The yound man at the reception did help by ringing around other hotels for us and found a triple room about 10 minutes drive away. This turned out to be quite acceptable as a place to stay for a night, so a possible disaster turned into an annoyance and meant that we were not able to see Trier as we had planned. One of the things that attracted us to the Paulin was its proximity to the Porta Nigra. We will have to return (with a confirmed booking)!
From what we saw the Paulin looked OK, indeed in real life the breakfast area looked better than it did on the hotel's website.
I'd be prepared to try again.
