I stayed at the Gunnewig Hotel Bristol Mainz in April 2005 and enjoyed my stay. I was hoping to get into a hotel near the city center but everything was booked so I took a chance on this hotel which is located in the middle of nowhere.

It ended up being a great little hotel, and was convenient for my business trip, but it was nowhere near anything of interest. I wondered why they would even build a hotel where they did, as it is right in the middle of a completely residential neighborhood.

The staff was always friendly, and pretty much everyone spoke English and was helpful when I asked for assistance. The restaurant had a very limited menu, and the food was ok. Unfortunately, there aren't many choices nearby so if you don't have your own transportation you'll probably get very familiar with the menu. Breakfast is the exception, as they have a great buffet with endless breads, meats and cheeses for making small sandwiches.

I probably wouldn't stay here again unless the Mainz city center hotels are booked (Hilton, etc.) but I did enjoy my stay and it was a nice change to stay in a residential area. A word of advice if you're going to be staying in or around Mainz - BOOK EARLY!!!
