“Good for a few days stopover”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

If you are having a weekend in Mainz or there for a few days business this isn't a bad place to rest your head. It's a similar type place to Premier Inn's in the UK. The check in area was smart and the staff were efficient and had good English language skills (weren't too bad at German either :-))
The room was very clean and furnished to a decent standard. It was a double bed rather than a king size and comfortable enough, but I could foresee a fight for a share of the duvet with my dear wife if she had been there, it wasn't the biggest bed cover in the world. The room had a decent flat screen TV and tea/coffee facilities.
The bathroom was spotless with very modern and clean decor, but the towels were rather thin.
If you do decide to use this hotel and are travelling from Frankfurt airport, use the train. Taxi's are around 50 Euros, the train was less than 5 Euros and Mainz HBF (the main station) was only 400 yards from this hotel. Trains are pretty frequent from the airport but watch out for them being signed for Koblenz, this is their destination, but they go through Mainz. To find the hotel from the station, when you come up from the platform, don't exit for the city, exit (Ausgang) to the west side of the station (it's signposted Ausgang West) and when you exit the station, walk straight out past the taxi rank and about 300 yards ahead is the hotel (across a busy road but there are pedestrian crossings)

I've seen other comments about the expensive breakfast and expensive wifi, but I didn't use either so can't comment.

Overall, I'd use this place again when back on business or even for a weekend break, but if you are staying for a week, there are probaly more comfortable hotels.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less road noise.

“Dissapointing”

I stayed with my family there on New Years Eve while on a layover in Frankfurt. While the rooms were very nice, the staff that checked us in were not exactly helpful. They did not let us know that there was no dinner service while checking in. After walking a mile looking for a place to eat we came back to the hotel and they did not offer any ideas as to what my family should do for dinner. We settled on a Turkish Kebop and Pizza place across from the train station. The night staff were cold and disinterested. The morning staff made up for the evening experience and the breakfast was good. The location is convenient to rail, but it is not in a very nice part of town. My family and I were nervous walking around the area. I would not recommend it to travelers.

“Built for business travel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

I stayed at the Intercity Hotel in Mainz for four nights while on a business trip. Let me start with the good and I will say that the good far out weighed the bad and the ugly. The location is fantastic, the hotel is right next to the train station so getting there from the airport is a snap. The location is also on the edge of the historic area so most of the city’s main attractions are easily in walking distance. The staff was always friendly and helpful. They were able to help me with the bus schedules and provided excellent restaurant advice. The rooms were clean, comfortable, had a mini fridge, and a safe. Arriving from Boston I got to the hotel at about 9:30am and despite check in not being until mid afternoon I was allowed to check in on the spot which was very welcome after being up for over twenty four hours. Your stay also came with a bus pass good for the duration of stay which I found very nice.

The bad was that the hotel is on a busy street so if you are a light sleeper the street noise may bother you (especially if it’s hot and you have to open the windows).

Now for the ugly, to me this was the classic example of a hotel set up to collect business travelers and their expense reports. Right from the start the rooms are not the cheapest you will find, but I am ok with that given the excellent service and super convenient location. The hotel does have a breakfast buffet in the morning, but it is not included and will cost you 14.50 euro. Now it is a decent buffet and has lots of options, but was hardly worth the cost. That said, since my meals go on an expense report and I needed to rush off to work as fast as possible every morning I paid the breakfast ransom. The other annoyance to me was that the hotel did not have complimentary internet access. You could pay by the hour or buy a day pass for around 25 Euro (which is about what my monthly internet bill is at home!) Much like breakfast I assume the hotel knows that most business travelers will grumble but ultimately pay the fee.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper ask for a room on the upper floors to reduce the street noise

“Convenient, clean, friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

We stayed in Mainz before catching a morning flight out of FRA because it was convenient and less expensive than Frankfurt. Location near the Hbf and bus stops was great. We were pleasantly surprised at some of the extras - free bus/rail passes for the day (which we used to travel to and around Wiesbaden), air conditioning, and small fridge in the room. Room was comfortable and clean, including the bathroom. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The only negatives were that breakfast was not included (offered buffet was expensive), and there was no complimentary WiFi (a free hour at least is often standard). Train to FRA was less than 30 minutes, so don't hesitate to stay here if you need to get to the airport.

“excellent meeting hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

We used this hotel for a small meeting (6 people), because Mainz was on the way to Frankfurt from the larger meeting we'd all been at earlier. We chose this because it was convenient to the train station, and the cost of a meeting room was considerably cheaper than some of the other hotels we'd tried (about half the price of the Hilton on the other side of the tracks). The only possible downside is that it's a little bit farther away from the city center (on the opposite side of the tracks) than most of the other hotels, but otherwise it was perfect. The soundproofing was excellent (my room overlooked a busy highway and I didn't hear a thing), the sleeping rooms were large and comfortable, and our meeting room was quiet and well appointed, with excellent coffee service. The only drawback from my point of view that it doesn't have a fitness center, just an arrangement with a nearby athletic club, which was less convenient for me.

A hint for anybody taking the train to or from the airport: if you take the bridge to the right as you leave the hotel, there is a flight of stairs about half-way across that takes you directly to tracks 4a and 5a, which is where the trains to Frankfurt and Frankfurt airport all stop. This means it takes only 5 minutes to walk to your train!
