“Average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Stayed at this hotel during a Trafalgar tour. This hotel is situated a few minutes from the city centre. It is in a square with a nice park in the middle, there are a number of eating establishments nearby. There are also shops nearby and a train station. The main lobby is not that big but is quite clean and tastefully decorated. The lifts are very slow, so it was easier and quicker to walk up even though we were on the fourth floor. As our tour guide checked us in, I had no contact with reception staff, but staff I encountered during the staff were friendly and professional. The room was clean and quite adequate, it did not have any views. A jug or coffee making provisions were not provided, but the room did contain a mini bar. There was free wifi internet available. The shower was quite strange as it was on the wall in the middle of the shower pointing out towards the bathroom so when you turned it on water comes straight out and floods the bathroom floor. There were also seven taps on the wall four down low and three up high, so you had to work out which one you needed for your water. The position the shower was in did not allow you to adequately stand under it, however you could take if off the wall to wash yourself. On the good side it did supply face washers which was the first hotel in 23 nights staying in hotels that did. We had dinner at the hotel and that was quite nice, however the breakfast was disappointing, not much choice and it did not look appetising, so we did not eat breakfast there. Overall I would stay here again, but only for a cheap rate.

“Please, please, please, air conditioning please!”

After a long day of touring, we checked in and found our room to be stifling hot. No air conditioning was available, and so we opened the windows and moved our mattresses to a spot under the window! This was unfortunate as other factors, such as cleanliness and service were fine.

Room Tip: If you are checking in during a warmer time of the year, ask for a room on a lower floor where it ma...

“You could do worse”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

Location: The choice isn’t wide in Ludwigshafen, particularly for non-business travellers, and most hotels seem to define themselves by how close they are to BASF. This one isn’t far from there and it is also within only a few minutes’ walk of the main shopping areas. Not cheap though.

Accommodation and facilities: I took the advice offered in other reviews on TripAdvisor and booked a “superior” room. This was OK, of a reasonable size, well appointed, and the bathroom was nice.

The public rooms and corridors made a rather gloomy impression.

Service and Food: An exception to that last point was the breakfast room, which was nice and bright. The buffet included a hot option and was very good

The bar was also nice. The staff there were friendly and efficient, a characteristic shared by the staff on reception, who were, however, a bit brisk in manner.

Ludwigshafen is not a city I mean to make a habit of visiting, but if I did go there again, I certainly wouldn’t rule out staying at the Europa.

“Very nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2009

I was quite impressed with this hotel in Ludwigshafen. I wasn't expecting much being that we were in a small town, but it was a pleasant surprise. The rooms were very well kept, the bed was extremely comfortable and the linens were luxurious. They had a wonderful breakfast and the staff was very accommodating.

“OK For Ludwigshafen”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2009

The trick is here to take a superior room. The standard rooms are cell like with a bare brick wall and about 1m too small in each direction. The superior rooms are spacious, well appointed, have air con and a trouser press. Internet is WIFI with T mobile 29 euros a month. The restaurant is in the bar but the food was ok. Breakfast is average buffet breakfast nothing hot only cold choices. There are quite a few nearby bars and restaurants and there is a tramline opposite. Ok of you want to walk into the centre of Ludwigshafen.
