excellent old world hotel, excellent cuisine, friendly service

Okay my sister in law that is german recommended this place as she stayed here many years ago. It is at great location but there are many many cons.

1. Not easy to find (although maybe that is due to our crappy gps in our rental)

2. We pull up to the entrance in the back of the hotel as the front is for pedestrians only and a car behind me starts honking at me. I had my kids in the car and had just dropped my husband off less than 5 min. before to check in and find out where we should park. My husband walks out with a man that works at the register. The man tells me that it is the owner behind me. I thought WTF?! Why is she honking at me if I am a customer. Look at the photo I took. I had no where to move to. I wasn't in her "parking spot" either as there was none. Very rude! Her car is the silver mercedes facing the small backdoor entrance and our rental is the mercedes black van.

3. The soap in the bathroom is disgusting (see photo), the shower head is gross (see photo) and the garbage can still had garbage in it.

4. My husband went down to ask the register guy to get an extra bed for our other child (we had 3 beds for the 4 of us..see photo) and basically told us we were SOL and the owner sat there and didn't even look up. She could care less. Obviously if she is honking at customers.

5. When my brother called their main line the register man called our room and was rude and said "your brudder is calling" and hung up the phone. Well all I heard was a beeping sound so I thought hmmm didn't go through. Then he calls me again and was practically yelling at me "your brudder is calling stay on the line!" I heard about 40 beeping sounds before it connected thank goodness because I didn't want him calling back.

6. It costs 8 Euros to use the internet for 24 hours and our room (off season) was 169 Euros. Gulp!

Some other facts that you may or may not think is a con:
No washcloths
Very small t.v. around 22"
No alarm clock

And I am sure I will find more!

If you want a hotel in central Koblenz, overlooking the Rhine - this is it. Clean, comfortable and (despite previous reviews) very, very friendly. We know a little German but all the staff were excellent english speakers and one member of staff is, actually, english herself!

We had a room with the view of the river and it was a little noisy if you had the window open but the double glazing shut the noise out. All river view rooms also have lovely little balconies.

There is a free car park at the back but it is very small so you may want to check availability of space in advance.

It was closed for dinner so we walked into Koblenz (a couple of minutes stroll) but breakfast was very good. Lots of choice and good quality. Book early ... we wanted to return but it was full on the dates we needed!

We arrived late at night and we were dropped off by the taxi at the back of the hotel car park, it did not give a great impression, dark, dank and a bit smelly.

Pleasant enough welcome but we were so disappointed by the room which again overlooked the nasty car park and was very old fashioned albeit serviceable. So the plus side is that when you go outside and walk around to the river side front of the hotel the view is wonderful. You are right on the Rhine and its all been redeveloped and is very fabulous.

We used this hotel as a jumping off point for the start of a cruise down the Rhine and for this it was massively convenient. You could walk to the boat gangways within minutes. Its overpriced for what it is but the convenience factor and the view has clearly pushed the price up. For one night its fine and make sure you make the most of the river view.
