I enjoyed my stay here immensely and found all staff exrtrememly helpful, beyond the norms as far as i was concerned. Hotel itself is clean and tidy and offers all the normal facilities. I had a room that overlooked the Rhina and the city. [It is well worth the additional small fee.] The room was well presented and clean cut but not so much so that you couldnt feel at home. Coffee making facilities in room were above standard and the minibar was a welcome sight for a thirsty traveller. Internet in the room was satisfactory with little drama connecting. The shower facility was excellent and the range of soaps, lotions and other toiletries included [for the first time in my experience, a duck!].
I ate both dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and could not fault either on quality, the breakfast being choice of cooked or continental buffet style, eat all you wish. Dinner was really good and complemented by a limited but satisfactory choice of wine. My sole bugbear was the arrival of a coach load of noisy Japanese tourists who insisted on walking back and forth around me as I ate, occasionally bumping me. I did not ask to move but have no doubt I would have been accomodated had I done so.
The bar was more functional than relaxing and could be better presented to my eyes. I had one drink there but didnt feel that I wished to stay longer, exposed as it is to all passing traffic from reception to restaurant.
A short stroll from the front door will find you stood next to the Rhine and the hotel seems well based to permit exploration, all be it that you are south of the Mosel. The point at which Mosel and Rhine meet is a comfortable walk from the Mercure.
Parking was easy enough although, as with all such places in Europe, a single traveller in a right-hand drive car faces numerous issues with tickets and exits.
All in all I believe the Mercure offers excellent value for money and is well worth considering as a base for short stopovers in Koblenz. I certainly intend to visit Koblenz again and will not look beyond the Mercure for my accomodation.
Room Tip: Premium rooms have a view of the Rhine. I secured a tenth floor room [1023 I think] which had excell...
