I am generally cautious about hotels situated next to train stations as many of them tend to be dodgy, dirty and with low standard. But I was pleasantly surprised by Hotel Astor, which has none of the above. I wouldn' recommend it for a long-term stay but it's a good place to spend a night or two.
I needed to be in Duesseldorf and when all hotels there were fully booked because of trade fair, staying in Astor was a good alternative because it only takes 25 minutes by train to get from hotel to Duesseldorf Hbf. The same goes for getting to a number of other cities nearby.
Astor is a solid city centre hotel, not the most luxurious place ever but also not shabby at all. It is perhaps slightly dated, with a 1970s look to it, old-fashioned decor and simple furniture, but it's clean and convenient. The best thing is location: right in the city centre of Wuppertal, next door to Wuppertal cable railway and 2 minutes away from the train station. And yet it's in a quiet street with no cars so there's noise from outside. Rooms are ok, fairly simple but have all the basic equipment. Bed was comfortable, bathroom clean, staff helpful, breakfast plentiful and tasty. I wouldn't hesitate coming back here again.
