The hotel describes its location as in the quaint town ot Solingen Ohligs. What is doesn't say is that it over looks at least 5 high speed and local railway lines, all of them well used day and night. We arrived at 5pm on a Friday evening and could not believe the noise level generated by the thundering high speed passenger and cargo trains. Even though the sticker on the window said the windows gave up to 46 decibels of sound protection, they didn't prevent the other 50 decibels from getting though. Ear plugs are an essential item in your luggage if you stay here and my advice is make sure you have a couple of local beers to help you drift off. In saying all this, i actually slept ok. I woke every couple of hours, but the trains backed off to every half an hour through the night making it bearable (with the ear plugs). You certainly would not have a quiet evening in watching the TV, you wouldn't be able to hear it. Nice local bar in town, Bavrisches Wirtshaus is recommended for friendly service, good beer and food.
Our room rate was £200 due i think to the high demand in the area this weekend, hence my comment that it was overpriced. I would have expected to pay no more that £70 for this quality hotel at any other time. Rooms were very clean, staff friendly and courteous, breakfast a bit dissapointing, but was ok. Shame no tea or coffee in room.
