We did a weekend trip Münster to celebrate our anniversary. Münster is not the town you immediately think of going but the town is actually very nice with a modern part around the harbour and the old town. But this hotel definetly added to the trip, Great service, great room, top location (just between the old town and the harbour district) and yes a good breakfast buffet. I could recommend this place to anyone.

Spent two nights here with my son. Good hotel, priced about right. Clean, with rooms that are big enough, and comfortable beds. The "design" tag is well warranted, it feels smart and modern. We were on the street side, not much of a view but not noisy either. There's no bath, but a very good shower. The service was friendly, helpful, and efficient, with a good concierge service that helped us enjoy Muenster to the full. Overall, it was a good choice.

Breakfast is excellent for a small hotel, good quality and plenty of choice, but rather cheekily the price is just wrapped up into a higher room rate when you check out - there's no indication as you check in, as you sit down for breakfast, or even on the final bill, that breakfast's an extra cost; in fact I'd go so far as to say the hotel does a good job of inferring that breakfast's included. There was no kettle in the room to make tea/coffee, which in a hotel of this class was disappointing.

The Mauritzhof is a clean, comfortable, modern hotel in the heart of Münster. It has a surprisingly chic, artsy feel to it that most will find quite pleasing. The rooms are tastefully decorated with huge, comfortable beds, flat screen TVs and modern bathrooms. There was plenty of closet space and the lighting was excellent. Add to this free in-room WiFi and you end up with a nice room.

The Mauritzhof has a very nice bar with a large sitting area. During our stay, the bar was unfortunately filled with heavy smokers causing us to bypass it. In a few months, however, Münster will be going smoke free so this will no longer be an issue. The hotel has a nice buffet breakfast with mostly cold offerings. While nicer than your average European hotel breakfast, I never felt it was worth the €15 per person charge. That is simply too high of a price for breakfast meats and breads. My wife opted out of the pricey breakfast (my breakfast was paid for by my company) and found several wonderful bakeries a few minute’s walk from the hotel where she enjoyed freshly baked pastries and fresh brewed coffee for €3 total. My advice is to not let the hotel add the price of the breakfast into the room rate. That way you can decide for yourself if the breakfast is worth €15 before having to pay for it.

The hotel is in a great location. Just 100m walk to the Old City Center, you are only a few minutes from beautiful buildings, dozens of restaurants and cafes, and excellent shopping. Anything you could possibly want to purchase, from basic goods to extremely expensive watches and clothing, is just a short stroll from the hotel.

There is a public parking lot right across the street from the hotel. Parking is free from 1800 to 0700. There is little if no on street parking near the hotel, so plan on using this lot. The lot is a bit tricky to get to and requires you to loop through a nearby neighborhood to “legally” turn in. Just be patient…

The hotel has rooms facing in opposite directions. The less expensive rooms face the main street – the Eisenbahnstrasse. The excellent windows kept all street sounds out of the room. The backside of the hotel faces the Promenade – Münster’s pedestrian and bicycle pathway. The view of the Promenade is uninspiring as it is nothing more than a simple bike path. Since I was familiar with the hotel from a previous stay, I chose not to pay the extra €15 per night for a Promenade room. It’s just not worth it in my opinion.

In all, Münster is a wonderful city and the Mauritzhof is a great place to stay while visiting.

Food: My wife and I both found La Bodega to be a great restaurant. It is a Spanish style tapas bar with excellent food and great wine. The prices were quite reasonable. But even on a Monday night the place was very crowded, so a reservation might not be a bad idea. The Restaurant Giverny is a magnificent French restaurant. It is expensive, but the food is some of the best you will find anywhere.

Bar: We stumbled upon a lovely local bar called Pinkulus right across the street from the Pinkus Brewery. Despite not speaking a lick of English, the owner made us feel like we were one of the regulars. Great beer selectgion and very reasonably priced.

Small, friendly, very modern, great location, scores highly in every department.All things considered, one of the best hotels I've stayed in.
