“Great breakfast, nice location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2010

We stayed for a short trip to explore the sights of the Muensterland, and the Moevenpick was an ideal base. For me its important that they have a gym. They have a gym. dont expect the same level like you might be getting in 4-star hotels in Asia, but its there. The breakfast in the morning is great. We did not need to go for lunch afterwards. The drawback is - its great. Which means it attracts not only hotel guests but also locals to enjoy a nice weekend start. I overheard people asking for booked tables for breakfast, so it might be worth doing that as well, even if you are a hotel guest.
The hotel is located right along a lake, and it gives you the holiday atmosphere. You can easily walk into town within 15 minutes. And along the lake there are some nice eateries - have to admit, I did not have the time to try them all out.
What I found disappointing is the way they handle car parks. The parking spots right outside the hotel, on the hotel grounds are free. they tend to be occupied rather quickly, and then you have to either place your car outside the hotel compound (something I would not do in the woods at night) or park in the garage. Thats not free however, and irregardless whether you are a paying, staying guest or just have your dinner there, you have to pay for the car park. I think they should reserve free parks for guests of the hotel, and let the people just coming in for a meal use the garage.
And one more gripe - come on guys, this is 2010. Really. Internet should be free in the rooms. Every time I stay in a hotel in Germany I feel like they cant decide whether they want to be high tech or rather go back to the good old times of postal carriages.

hotel was great. the staff were very friendly and helpful. They were located near the lake and just a short walk to town. the city is absolutely beautiful as well. Just watch out for the bikers. The hotel room was lovely and the biggest I have ever stayed at in europe. They have a fitness center and sauna, although the fitness room is small I was glad to have one. Teh rooms were clean and comfortable. The restaurant was also very good. Internet and breakfast are not included however.

“Hotel staff helpful and ice cream amazing!”

The hotel staff was very nice and helpful. They even helped me translate a brief thank you note to my firm's German partner. The rooms are large and clean. I liked the remolded bathrooms. The hotel is close to the university and by a beautiful German grave yard (It is almost like a park, very different from American cemeteries). The breakfast buffet was always fresh and for dinner ice cream is a must! I had strawbery and pear sorbet - unbelievable!

“Great breakfast - convenient and clean”

We were in town for a wedding and this was one of a couple of hotels suggested. Although we were concerned that it wasn't as centrally located as other options, we were happily surprised to discover that the walk into town along the water was very pleasant.

The breakfast on offer is first-rate and is enough to keep you going through the day!

“Beautiful Hotel! But caution - breakfast is not free!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2009

My husband and I stayed at the Movenpick for two nights at the tail end of a European Road Trip. It was quite nice to have such plush accommodations after such a long drive. The Movenpick rooms are huge! We had two double beds in our room, and they were very comfortable. Our room appeared to have been recently renovated, as everything was spotless and very new. The bathroom was large and the shower was great.
Contrary to what some posters have said, the hotel rooms do in fact have air conditioning, although the lobby, halls and restaurant do not (yikes!). The A/C in the rooms, however, will not go any lower than 21 degrees, so it took our room a bit of time to cool down on a very hot day.

The restaurant downstairs is very nice and is a pretty good value - it also has vegetarian options, which is nice.

The hotel is located a bit of a walk from the center of town, but it is surrounded by parks, a lake and bike paths, so it is very quiet.

There is parking for a fee, but when we were there, there were some open outdoor spots near the forest (1 minute walk from the hotel) that were free, so we parked, there, instead.

There is wireless Internet access, but it costs 13 euros for 24 hours.

There are only two things that annoyed me about the hotel:

1. We never got maid service! We came home from sightseeing at 4:30 p.m. and our room still hadn't been cleaned. Finally,. someone came about 15 minutes later, but by then, we didn't really want it anymore. I got a few fresh towels, but that was it. It annoyed me because I think when you are spending 100 euros a night for a hotel, you should have the room cleaned before evening.

2. They're sneaky about the breakfast - not very ethical! They give you breakfast vouchers when you check in, and tell you where the breakfast is -- which makes you assume the breakfast is free, right? Well, I read the fine print on the tickets and it said something like, "Your room has been charged with the appropriate amount. If you do not use

Well, the breakfast is 16 euros, so we definitely did NOT eat it, instead we walked to a nearby bakery. I think they should just tell you breakfast is there and you can charge it to the room if you want - it's obvious that they want you to THINK that the breakfast was included in your room rate, when it wasn't!

However, regardless of these points, I would definitely stay at this hotel again because it is a very quiet, comfortable place with great beds and friendly staff.
