“Not Bad at All!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2008

A group of us stayed here whilst visiting the Essen fairground (Messe).

It is very convenient for the Messe - less than 5 minutes in a taxi.

The hotel itself has a bit of a strange layout - the rooms are in separate 3-storey blocks off a main corridor. However, this was fine.

The rooms themselves are small compared to other German hotels we have stayed in, but pretty average for UK rooms. They were clean and bright, with a remote TV and a mini-bar.

The breakfast each morning was very good - highly recomended.
The evening meal was pretty good too, altho there wasnt a huge choice - after 4 nights I was wishing for something a bit different!

The only annoyance is that the hotel is in the middle of a manufacturing area - no shops, restaurants, bars etc.

However, if you were visiting the messe for a few days, I would certainly recommend it. We will probably stay there again.

“Agree with Others - more of a Business Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2008

Have just stayed at this hotel whilst on business and would agree with others comments that it is more of a business hotel than one for a vacation.
The rooms were clean but i found them hot, as there was no air conditioning. I left my window open during the night but there was alot of noice around that woke me at circa 5am each day.
The restaurant had good found and had a very good breakfast.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

“Business hotel not vacation hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2008

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights in June. This is definately just a business hotel, not a hotel to get real comfortable in. Room was big and clean but there is no air conditioning, so it was very warm at night. It is far away from anything, you must take public transit to get into Essen. I had walked one day but it took about an hour to get to central Essen. The work out room was adequate, two bikes, one eleptical, one treadmill, but again very warm. There are weight machines but the only instructions to use the type of equipment is in German.
We thought the breakfast was very good. Large selection although the selection gets smaller as the morning gets later.

“Poor-and whole place smells of cigarettes”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2007

Supposed to be a 4 star hotel. Heating limited, whole place smells of cigarettes, no carpets on walkways, service very limited- no help with bags, restaurant very average (and continues with the heavy cigarette theme) and a long! way from anywhere, even the Messe. I was very cold. 1 little quilt on bed, window kept fallong open and the heating is on tepid. Quite expensive too.

“Ok at scandic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2006

Stayed here during World Cup.

Very large hotel looked a bit like an office block. Stayed here as best accommodation that we could get for world cup semi at Dormund at short notice.

Was really hot and sleep was difficult, quite though and obviously convenient for nearby businesses. Little else of interest nearby.

Used bar, breakfast and bar snacks all of which were fine.

Pet hate of mine is paying for hotel parking where it is not at a premium i.e. Central London ok but here?
