“Good service, nice rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

The Sheraton was a very comfortable place to stay. The service was good, though there was a little mix up with our room, and we ended up switching twice. Other than that, our stay at the Sheraton was nice.
There was internet access, which was good, and somewhat rare, but it is only available in the lobby.
Our room was quite nice, and had a beautiful view of the park behind the hotel.
The hotel restaurant was interesting. It had a strange system that was a little difficult to figure out (we'd been awake for 40 hours, so I'm sure this made a difference), but the food was good, and the staff was friendly.
Would recommend.
Oh, and I think something said this hotel had a pool, but it does not.

Dear Laura M.

Thank you very much for taking the time and letting us know about your previous stay with us. We very much appreciate your feedback giving us the opportunity to keep improving our services. Once again, we would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused by the room move. Glad to hear you liked the room with view overlooking the park area.

Also, thank you for your kind recommendation of our restaurant. Don't know when you experienced our services; I think you probably used it on a Friday. On Friday we offer our Frid*ex program when you had the chance to eat from a sixteen menu selection. You could have chosen any item on the card how often would wanted and when. There are no strict courses to follow.

The Sheraton Essen hotel does not have a pool facility. If you could get in touch with us and would advise where you had found that information we would sort it out.

We hope you had a safe trip back home.
Greetings to sunny California!

Kind regards,
Katrin Kitel

“Nice hotel, good location and good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

Stayed at the Sheraton Essen for one night on a recent business trip and enjoyed the room, the facilities and services.
The room decor and furniture is slightly outdated, but well maintained. OK, but not great. As a Platinum member I had access to the lounge, which was very nice and offered some basic snacks and drinks in the evening and a small selection of breakfast items. I chose to have breakfast at the restaurant instead and was surprised by the wonderful service and the nice selection of food. Hot and cold dishes, including sparkling wines, antipasti, eggs, fresh fruit, cereal and anything one needs. The waiters were super friendly and attentive, removing dishes, offering more coffee and also taking special orders. Combined with the view of a park, this was a great start to the day.

If in Essen again, I would definitely stay here again.

“Nice hotel on the outside but very basic smelly rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011 via mobile

We stayed for one night. At the reception they told us we got a nice upgrade because we are gold members. The room was very very basic with a small double bed, no queen, no king bed (altough I booked a king room). The room had a strange smell. Although the hotel was far from fully booked and although I told them that this was not the upgrade that I was promised, we did not get another room.... The receptionist now told me that they only gave upgrades to diamond members,...
We were happy to leave the hotel the next morning. The hotel looks very promising on the outside, but be sure you do get a nice room. To management: this is not how you should treat your gold members,....

“Got some issues with their kitchen”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

I have been staying at this hotel since March this year on a regular basis. The staff (front desk, bar abd restaurant) is very friendly and helpful. They get let down by the kitchen. We eat regularly in the hotel and the service is the slowest I have ever experienced. Not just one time but every single time. The food takes for ever to arrive and is quite often luke warm. Clearly it has been sitting somewhere and waiting. The salads very often have completely collapsed under mountains of dressing - again the food has been sitting somewhere. When we get the food we are so hungry that we cannot be bothered to send very mediocre fair back. However we did it once since the food was inedible. We were told there was a new chef in the kitchen. You may want to look at some of the food. Food is very hit and miss - more miss and without the fabulous lady in the bar nothing would really work. Waiting times even for drinks are too long- even when it is not busy and bar and bistro seem to bee understaffed. Otherwise it would be nice to have a water bucket in the sauna and working equipment in the gym. The rooms are ok, nice linens. Housekeeping doesn't replace vanity kits when used but always put a new piece of soap in the room. Clearly a waste. Aircon not really working and rooms often stuffy. Noise of smokers outside during the night not good. Little things could improve this hotel immensely.

“nice hotel, friendly staff, decor a little dated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

This is a nice hotel and convenient for the centre of Essen, the train station and also Ruttenschied Strasse (15 min walk) where there is a huge choice of restaurants and boutique-type shops. Its is next to the Philharmonie and almost next to the Opernhaus. There is an underground station outside the front of the hotel and a small (but pleasant) park at the back.
The hotel is quiet, well run with very attentive, helpful staff. The restaurant and room service are reasonably priced with a reasonable choice. The bar has a good atmosphere.

The only downside is that not all rooms have tea and coffee, and some of the decor is dated although in good condition and well maintained. It does feel like it is 10 years out of date. The hotel tends to be warmer than myself and many of my British colleagues would like but the windows do open.

I have spotted the German national football team statying here on a few occasions.

The beds have feather quilts (or at least the rooms I have slept in do) which were so nice that I had to change to a feather quilt myself!

Room Tip: Ask for one with tea and coffee facilities. The rooms overlooking the park are quieter but noise is...

Dear UKTinkerbell,

Thank you for booking our hotel and posting your review.
Many thanks for pointing out positive aspects of your stay at our hotel and appreciation of our well trained associates that hosted you during your stay.

Generally, all of our rooms throughout all categories are equipped with “Tassimo” coffee- and tea machines. Accidently the coffee machine was removed without further notice.

Please accept our sincerest apologizes for the inconvenience caused.

In case you have to experience this lack of service please feel free to contact our Guest Service Center directly to provide you with such service.

We look forward to welcome you soon at the Sheraton Essen Hotel.
