We chose the Hotel An der Gruga because of other TA reviews and because of it's location. The hotel is on a quiet side street and yet only a block from a main road into town from the south. This made it easy to find. We found free parking in front of the hotel, but failing that they have private parking in back. A few hundred feet from the front door is the underground into town. Are purpose was to visit the Folkwang museum. A quick ride on the metro took us to within a few blocks. We walked back in about 15-20 minutes so it was not far.
The rooms at the hotel are large with plenty of room in the bathroom. There was plenty of places to put our stuff and a desk for working with our laptop. There's free wifi. There are also comfortable chairs. For a few more Euros there are even larger rooms in the extension. As it was raining, we opted to stay in the main building. The room had nice furniture and we enjoyed the little time we spent there in the evening. It was pleasing to the eye and relaxing. It was also quiet. I'm a very light sleeper and had no problems sleeping.
Breakfast was one of the best we had during our week in Germany, with scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and fried mushrooms. The usual cereals, breads, cheeses and hams were also available.
The staff were very helpful. We asked about one site and they didn't have any info. But when we returned later in the evening and got our key the info was waiting for us. We were very impressed by that and their willingness to show us the larger rooms and let us decide which of the available rooms we preferred.
