We love staying at nice airport hotels the day before flying back to USA (especially when the morning flight is early) No worries or hassles rushing.....and you can enjoy a relaxing warm pool/sauna as well! The rooms at Maratim Duesseldorf are not huge (ours was about 20 feet square) yet super-clean, modern, and ours had a nice hallway/closet/dressing area by the entry and modern bath. The couple things not so enjoyable are the fact we were at the end of a rather long corridor (room 555) the minibar prices, as expected, are rather pricey, with a bottle of local beer setting one back E 3.50 which was cheaper than Coca Cola at E 3.60. The bathroom, while first-class in every way except for size, was a little tight for the average married couple getting ready in the morning. The E 10.- deposit required for an electric outlet adapter is OK if you really need one, but a four star hotel usually loans you one gratis. In-room Wifi (W-Lan auf deutsch) costs E 15.- per 24 hrs.The breakfast buffet a' E 23.- per person is not out of line for a fabulous feast. We'll try it out in a few hours before we return tomorrow! At least the gorgeous pool and sauna are included in the room price, as were the slippers we stole--er, uh, borrowed!
As stated the rooms are well-insulated and curtains thick, but it is cool watching planes land just outside your window! The phone system is first-rate (I could leave a message for callers) nice free internet in business center downstairs (two terminals yet four cable-connections for laptops) The Rheinische Stov dinner was pricey but yummy. I had potato soup with sausages (small-ish bowl, E 5.- with a basket of tasty rolls and butter) Wife enjoyed the deep-fried salmon with potato salad for E 16.- and of course our son enjoyed the veal Schnitzel with the best fried potatos we've ever had ( E 19.-) Desserts: see the attached pictures. The sut-up pancakes with berries and vanilla ice cream was worth twice the E 7.50 they charged. The Apfelstrudel was OK a little dry and mealy. If it wasn't E 8.- I probably would have liked it better! Service was outstanding, I even got some special Karneval beer coasters and a couple of free Killepitsch Kraeuterlikoers from the sweet waitress! As stated before the four restaurants are directly located in the massive lobby of the Maritim Duesseldorf. Grab a free newspaper in the lobby (or walk three minutes to the airport bookstores for english language reading material) and people-watch from the very comfy couches in the beautiful lobby with planes nearly silently landing a hundred or so meters away. Great hotel!
Room Tip: lower number rooms closer to elevator, rather long hallways (but excellent travel photos to see on y...
