“Two Nights”

Arrived at our original booked Hotel early in the morning, but due to flood damage could not book in there! Arrangments had already been made for us, they had re-arranged our accommodation at their sister Hotel 'Kastens' - Taxi arrived quickly at their expense and took us there in no time! (However, the Taxi driver had a real attitude XXL - thus a tip was not forthcoming - Hotel Monopol if that is your regualr Taxi firm and you are reading this - please change Taxi firms!)

We had two rooms at the 'Kasten' both were clean and modern - of note was the decent shower (a German thing) and comfortable beds - for some the rooms and bathroms maybe on the small side; but everything really was satisfactory at least. We enjoyed very good service from all of the staff we had contact with and they all spoke good English; though some extra credit goes to them, as they did show some patience with my German!

Good location with a managble walk to the River, City Centre, Ko Avenue, Altstadt and the Bahnhof etc. A tram stop is nearby and easy to use (get on the tram on the right hand platform to go into town, mount near the driver and you will find the ticket machine located behind the drivers compartment - press the English button (for those who need to!) on the ticket machine and most trips are 'fare A' (local) the group ticket for 5 people makes sense for 4/5 of you!

Kastens is not a 4 Star, it has had a makeover and trys to be a bit 'arty'. A decent, no frills place to stay with good service. We would use this Hotel again.

Room Tip: Hotel is in a quiet area - you do get some lift noise but nothing too bad. We had one room at the r...

“Can be good value, close to Media Harbour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011 via mobile

Decent hotel, very comfortable, only a 10 minute walk to Media Harbour or 25 mins walk to old town. Expensive the week I stayed due to a large convention in town, but in other weeks is around 80 euros for a large double. Will stay there again next time I'm over

“Disappointing & way to expensive for what it is .......... Ripped off!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

Room lacking amenities, don't know how it gets a 4 star rating. Safe was sticky taped to a wall in the closet, decor outdated, mini bar switched off, no air conditioning, no parking, no bottle of water, lift stops between floors then there's 12 stairs either up or down to your floor that you have to battle with luggage cos there's no porter. Because of some convention that we weren't even attending it cost us €506.00 for a twin per night & it's location was outside the city centre & not even close to public transport. Thank god the staff were nice .............. We've travelled all through Europe and this Hotel should only be rated a 3 Star.

“Not quite what I expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2011

Nice hotel, but far too expensive compared to the quality. No wifi available in the rooms, no restaurants nearby to go for a quick dinner in the evening and if you don't want to use taxi, you need to be prepared to take a tram to reach the very centre of the city and the old town. The staff was friendly.

“Reasonable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

Does not have own parking. Found a space in the street of the front exit but then had to find petrol. The directions they gave were poor, but the map they provided was good enough to help me find petrol. When I got back my space was gone and had to squeeze into the last and worst space which was so small I could barely open the door. There are some restaurants down the street, but nothing special.
Staff average, internet OK, pleased with room.
