For the third year running I have stayed at this hotel during Boote Germany the largest boat show in the world. I need to be ready to go on the first day and each year they have found me a room early enough to get some sleep after a transoceanic flight with early arrival. The rooms are large and with high ceilings unlike many rooms I've stayed in while visiting Europe and the breakfast is great with a lot of variety each morning. But the key is the location for me. Across the street is a beautiful park and through that park is the famous old town. Additionally, within one block you can be on a tram or the underground. Very convenient. I have also found the staff to be very accommodating and professional. This hotel was a lucky find three years ago and will continue to be my home in Dusseldorf. One suggestion is to ask about construction as they have been remodeling rooms every year I've been there so you'll want to get a room as far away as possible from one of the projects in progress if you are a late riser. Otherwise it doesn't matter at all.

We stayed one night in January (2 adults and 2 children). We stayed in a four bedded room and it was much bigger then I thought it would be because there was a separate door for the room with the additional 2 beds, so nice for parents! The decor is a little dated but everything was clean and the design sort of goes with the hotel.

Upon arriving we were greeted and given a map of the area. The gentleman who helped us was very sweet and explained how to get to the areas we were interested in visiting and made additional suggestions based on the fact that we were traveling with children. He also gave us wifi codes for all 4 of our devices! Overall, very impressed with all of the staff.

The hotel is short walk to the shopping streets (which are great) and historic areas.

The breakfast was good with many options. I would stay here again.

We (2 adults and one child) stayed here in a triple room during a visit to the Christmas Markets in December 2011. This hotel has an old world feel to it, the lobby was nice and inviting; we were met at the reception by a very polite and helpful person (sorry cannot remember his name). Everything was ready, I signed a piece of paper and we were on our way to the room. Check in - about 3 minutes. The room was spotless, and our daughter particularly appreciated the chocolate on the pillow - a small but appreciated touch. The beds were comfortable, we had enough space to move around and there was a cupboard to put out bags out of sight; bathroom was also spotless. We had arrived after a long drive and settled for a beer in the lobby bar - I could get comfortable here; again the young lady behind the bar was very helpful and kind with her time. As I was a bit tired after the drive - we asked for a referral to a local restaurant - again, had a ball and tried to return the following evening. We returned early to the hotel the following evening to relax for a few hours after a very trying visit to the Markets and were quite comfortable to spend our few hours there. The decor in the public areas is attractive, sort of an old world style and I have to say I really felt relaxed here. Our package included breakfast which was served to 11 am (weekend), which is great during a holiday. One of the key elements of this hotel was our interaction with the staff - one walks away with the impression they are polite, kind and warm - not because its their job, but its who they are. By the way - parking about 200 meters past the hotel first left.

I adore this hotel. We stayed in Excelsior for three nights 08-11 december 2011. The hotel is located with 10 minutes walk from the AltStadt, 1 min to go for metro station. The room was clean, everything was working. So we just enjoyed every day there!
Surely I will come there again.
Breakfast was great! Thanks to the personell of the hotel. They really like their job!!
