“Good but lack of internal soundproofing is an issue”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2011

The hotel is within easy walking distance of the main train station, department stores, the old town and the river. Reception staff were pleasant and efficient at all times and the standards of cleaniness were high. Excellent value for money.

As it was over the new year period I expected outside noise but I never heard any fireworks, sirens etc. However sleep was difficult because of noisy plumbing, paper thin walls, banging doors and lifts moving. This is a shame as no matter how good everything else in the hotel is if you can't sleep you can't enjoy your holiday.

“Noisy, noisy and very noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2010

The hotel is in a reasonable location as other people have described, the rooms are fine and clean, the beds are comfy and the staff are also helpful. The decoration is not really to my taste, it is a little 80s but again it's fine.

The only problem we experienced during our stay was noise. The walls are really thin so we could here everything that was happening in the next room and people that were going past the door. We were in a room next to the lift shaft and could hear it going up and down in to the early hours and then starting again early morning. There is also a church near by that has a clock which chimes. Granted the closk is nothing to do with the hotel but thought it was worth pointing out for light sleepers. Also whilst we were there from 8.30am there was a constant drilling noise through the day. I am not sure if it was in the hotel or next door but it never stopped.

So all in all if you are a light sleeper I would not recommend stopping here, if you are a reasonable heavy sleeper you will be fine. Granted some of the noise may be beyond the hotels control but we did not find it a peaceful break.

“Great hotel in Dusseldorf”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2010

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel on a visit to Christmas markets. We got train from airport and then got train to nearest stop - we knew HBF was very close, but didn't want to be wandering aroudn with bags. We found the hotel so easily!! When we got there the receptionist was on the phone. There were 2 other staff behind the desk and they continued with what they were doing. It is the only negative I have on 5 days in the hotel. Once the receptionist saw I was getting annoyed, she asked one of the others to come over to us. The girl that did spoke excellent English, explained we were too early for our room and took and labelled our bags and gave us directions to town. At all other times the staff at reception were beyond friendly and helpful and after a day or so knew our room number when they saw us. We drank in the bar a few times and it's lovely. Our booking included breakfast. It's fine, but I wouldn't pay EUR12 extra for it. I had checked loads of sites before I found one with good rates that included breakfast!

Our room was small!! When we came back later that day, there were only a few rooms ready. We could have waited longer, but at that stage we were wrecked from a very early start and wanted a nap. We took the available room. It was on top floor. When I opened the door first, I got a terrible fright as it looked like a cage!! But it was an unusually shaped room and we had to go into it to see it properly. It looked so small at the start, but I think it was more the layout of it. It was more than adequate for our needs and the beds were so comfortable. We were also perfectly warm there!! The only slight annoyance is that the curtains, when pulled, came over the rad, so the room felt cold in the morning - we soon learned to scoop up the curtain and rest it on top of the rad! The bathroom is tiny no matter what way you look at it. the shower is the smallest i've ever encountered - standing it you almost touch all sides!! Lovely powerful shower though!

When we checked out, they kept our bags for the day and we came abck a few times and added purchases to them!!!

Overall, would definitely stay here if back in Dusseldorf.

“Great Service and a Good quality 3 star hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2010

We have just returned from visiting the Christmas Markets in Dusseldorf and Cologne. We used this hotel as it was central in the city and close to the railway station.
The hotel was warm, very clean and the staff in particular Elisa were very helpful and informative. The rooms were well decorated and cleaned and nothing was to much problem for the staff.
This is a good quality 3 star hotel.

“Best 3* I've ever stayed in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

This hotel was amazing
I was only there one night and I would have happily stayed for another week,
The beds were comfy, there was free tea and coffee making facilities, the rooms were generally just really pretty, and clean.
There was a fan in the cupboard which did get used because (I don't know if the heating was one) but it was just really really hot all night. And being in a room on the first floor we could hear a lot of noise from other guests.
The breakfast was delicious- however not worth 12€! I did think that 12€ for breakfast was a little superfluous.
Also there was a mistake with the yoghurt labelling. Not a biggy unless you my dad (and highly allergic to cherries)
The Cherry yoghurt said 'Erdbeer' (strawberry). I informed the lovely man in the breakfast room and this was then taken away.
The staff were very friendly and spoke great English, but were happy to speak in either English or German.
The night before I came to this hotel, I stayed in a hostel in Cologne, which cost more than this did (for this hotel, we paid 55€ for a double room, the hostel was 56€.
Overall, I would return to this hotel tomorrow. Everything about it I liked. It felt fresh and new and clean. Loved it!
I will be recommending this to all my friend who visit me in Germany.
