“Convenient location, clean and well presented. Annoying little charges tho!”
The Asahi is a somewhat strange hotel for a city centre, in that the building is "shared" - part residential, part hotel, although via seperate entrances. Although odd, it posed no problem. Location-wise- a short 10 minute stroll from the main train station - Hauptbahnhof-it's ideal. The general area of the hotel itself is nothing to shout about to be honest, with little to see or do, especially of an evening. In fact, the Hauptbahnhof is an ok place to head for, if in need of a quick snack etc.
As for the hotel itself, it has a small reception area, and bar with a few seats. Whilst we were there, it was never really utilised, and was somewhat desolate - although there were clearly few guests staying at the hotel, for some reason.Staff members on reception duty were always polite and helpful.
Our room on the second floor was fine. Fairly spacious, with all the usual fixtures and fittings etc. Just a shower - no bath tho, if that is of concern to you .The room was clean, serviced well, and in good order. The beds were actually quite comfortable, The TV was a chunky model, with an even chunkier remote control! Come on - a nice modern flat screen please!
Breakfast was commendable. As the hotel clearly caters for Japanese visitors, there is even a servery with a selection of food associated with that culture. Plenty to choose from - cold meats, cheeses, and hot food too. Well done here.
One trivial thing though that really annoyed me. The hotel has a computer for guests' use. It has a printing capacity (that did not work, and could not be sorted), so I had to use the printer at the reception area to print off airline boarding passes. The hotel - despite being a 4* - insists on a payment of 30 cents per sheet of A4 copy paper. Hence my 4 sheets of boarding pass cost 1 Euro 20! I find it unbelieveable that the hotel finds it necessary to do this. Totally unacceptable, and, despite that it really only corresponds to a small amount, it is trivial, petty, and somewhat silly , leaving a bad taste, which soured the entire experience for me. Asahi - take note, and remove this ridiculous charge forthwith.
Other than that - the hotel is a good choice for Dusseldorf.
