“Japanese hotel in Germany - Loved it.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2007

From the outside it seems a bit quirky and it is. The bar area is small and almost part of the reception desk. You get in the elevator and think "oh dear". You get to your room and you think "wow!".

I may have been lucky but my room was massive. A separate lounge, a huge bathroom, and a sizeable bedroom. The Japanese influence means bare floors, high tech lighting, TVs and a better CD player than I've got at home. Room was slightly warm and I couldn't find the remote for the air/con so I opened a window.

Staff are extremely polite and friendly (as I experienced in Tokyo), the breakfast buffet was ample and the place is a treat.

At only 10mins walk from Konigsallee and 2mins from the station I would heartily recommend this hotel as an alternative to the main chains - and it was cracking value for money!

“Nice Hotel - Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2007

I recently stayed at the Asahi Hotel for one night. The hotel is a modern high rise building located just a five minute walk from the Dusseldorf main railway station where both the street cars and subway system will get you to anywhere in Dusseldorf you want to go. All of the staff I encountered were pleasant and helpful. The two front office clerks who assisted me spoke English well and were very helpful with providing directions and suggestions for places to visit within Dusseldorf.

The room I was assigned was of good size compared to other hotels I have stayed at in Europe for the same price range. The room was nicely, but simply, appointed with furniture similar to Danish modern and had hardwood floors. The bathroom was of sufficient size and was very clean. An assortment of nice toiletries was provided by the hotel. The beds were comfortable and the linens clean and crisp. The room had an air-conditioning unit although it was not needed at the time I visited Dusseldorf. The room also had an iron and ironing board which was nice. Another nice touch was the umbrella in the room provided to the guest by the hotel since it was raining outside at the time.

My room rate included a buffet breakfast. The hotel offered both Japanese and Western style buffets, both of which provided a nice assortment of fruits, cereals, baked goods, typical Japanese breakfast foods, and a nice assortment of coffee, teas, and juices.

Overall, I found the hotel to be very nice, comfortable, and in a good location. I would stay at this hotel again in the future and recommend it to others.

DIRECTIONS FROM THE RAILWAY STATION:

Walk out the exit towards Konrad Adenauer Platz. Immediately outside the doors, turn right and walk towards, and past, the post office. The tourist visitor center is just across the street on your left before you get to the post office. Once you walk past the post office, turn left. The hotel is immediately in front of you across the road.

“Rooms much better than lobby”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2006

Minimalist rooms with Japanese flavor are spacious and very clean, as was the large, well-equipped bathroom. Beds are firm, plenty of closet space. Generous breakfast in room with big windows - no basement dining here ! Desk staff was pleasant and helpful. Americans looking for good value shouldn't be put off by clean but rather dim lobby [too much flourescent lighting] - rooms are better than the lobby indicates. Be sure to ask for non-smoking floor if it matters to you as smoking floors can be musty.

  • Liked — Spacious, clean rooms with no fussy decor, generous breakfast
  • Disliked — uninviting lobby
  • Tips/Secrets — Asahi has strong Japanese flavor and clientel without high price of Nikko

“2-3 Room changes ...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2006

Although staff was brilliant, it reflects badly on the hotel, if 2 (or 3) room changes are required:
First, I had to mention that I did book a suite / penthouse type room, which was great in termas of watching the sunset but unfortunately, due to parts of the hotel being in part of a residential bulding, it cheapens the whole atmosphere.
Now to my problems with the room: the first room wasn't made and saying that it's lay-out was also terrible. I was changed to a much nicer and better room but when i came back from dinner, I noticed that the aircon didn't work (it was during the heatwave on a 33C day), so I was given yet another room. The bathroom was smaller but the room itself was nice and big. What's more the aircon worked, great! Unfortunately, only when switching off the aircon due when wanting to retire, I noticed a loud and continuous humk coming from the wall. holding my ear aginst it it was either cables etc. serviving the lift or the aircon duct. As it was 1.30 am by that time and the hotel was fully booked, I wasn't able to change rooms for the third time and basically got 2 hours sleep (bad considering my appointment was only at noon!). The manager in the morning refunded me around 20€, which is nice but seeing it was a business trip, I didn't really benefit from it but to theri protection: the room was very new and probably not quite ready yet and they did try very hard to compensate for what happened. On the plus side: they service continental as well as JAPANESE breakfast, which is great and all room I tried had large LCD TVs which is a lso a real plus!

  • Liked — Sunset from penthouse rooms
  • Disliked — No pool / wellness area
  • Tips/Secrets — Nice LCD TVs, Japanese breakfast

“Looking for a romantic weekend? Wrong place.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2005

An acceptable hotel all in all, but not for the price. If you're a businessman you'll be glad for the wifi-internet untill you find out it is a T-mobile hotspot and you'll be charged a fair amount on your creditcard. The hotel doesn't even provide wifi adapters. The sauna was hot to be sure but the fact that almost no lights worked (they couldn't fix it either) made for a somewhat dark cellar. Also no drinkingwater, something rather important if you're sweating. The room and bathroom (microbath..) were spotless and the breakfast buffet is ample.
The most annoying part was having to use your key for every door, including fire doors, access to elevator etc..
