“Very good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2011

Good location. Not far from railway station and the centre of town is 15 minutes away. The front office staff were extremely helpful with their advice re places to visit and things to do. Service was very good as well.

Room was clean. The aircon worked and there were no noise problems. ice was available from the front desk on request. There's a number of watering holes in the vicinity that add to the local colour.

“Good hotel for one night”

Hotel clean, but without the luxuries. In-room ironing board and iron.

“Bad experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2010

Although the hotel is well located (not far from main train station) the service is extremely poor and staff very unfriendly and not professional. I stayed there for 5 nights and here below some examples of what I experienced:
- I found tissues of the previous guest in my bathroom bin
- I asked for a non smoking room, gor the reply that all rooms are non smoking, but I could,'t take away the smoke smell for the entire stay
- bath floor was not clean for the entire stay
. they charge you € 0.30 for sheet of paper (even if you wish to print your boarding pass)
- courtesy PC in the lobby where out of order for 4 days
- night auditors are useless and very unprofessional
- it took me 20 minutes to check out at 5.10 am in the morning
- if you book via internet, make sure to ask for a DBL room as they still sell SGL bedded room which extremely small
- they charged 2 additional breakfast to my account and the night auditor didn't know how to take it out from my bill....
Definitely not a good place to stay

“Basic ... could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2009

The hotel is convenient for the main train station, and a 10-15 min walk from town centre. It is situated near a busy road which can cause traffic noise late into the night. The staff are very helpful and polite and the room was cleaned well. The rooms are average in size and very bland in decor. The air con was the biggest bug as we happened to stay on the hottest weekend and the unit was working like a baby's breath! The breakfast is repetative and a little limited, and priority is given to Japanese guests for choice. The hotel apparently has a fitness facility but I didn't visit it.

Overall I wouldn't stay at the Asahi again, as I would prefer to find a hotel for similar price that was in a better area and had more character. I would like to think that was possible in Dusseldorf.

“A classy experience with some nice surprises”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2008

My girlfriend and I booked this hotel as a romantic getaway, to see Dusseldorf itself and generally unwind.

We drove there expecting poor traffic and lack of parking, but both were excellent (Dussldorf and Germany are a doddle to drive in anyway) and they have their own secure parking both in front of the hotel and in an underground car park. For E15 per day, this was also a bargain in comparison to some hotels.

The reception has a certain wow factor about it, and the front desk were very helpful, although they did have us down for a Twin rather than penthouse double. The hotel is easy to get around and clearly marked, and all the staff were completely fluent in English.

As mentioned previously, we stayed in a penthouse double. These rooms are near the very top of the building, on the 12th floor, and can only be accessed by people with a penthouse key. They are beautifully laid out, and very well presented, with charm and a certain level of individuality, in comparison to the clinical and standardised appearance that is the norm these days.

Our room came full to the brim of extra toiletries, a large tv, coffee machine and everything else you would expect. The balcony is a shared one with a nice view over Dusseldorf, although we had concerns about people walking by our windows, we seemed to have the whole floor to ourself!!

This was really the only concern, the balcony can be accessed by anyone, and gives a direct look into the bathroom and bedroom/living area. Although blinds were fitted, some were ill fitting and we ended up hanging a t shirt over one of the larger cracks!!!

The breakfast was great, not much deserving of an honourable mention, but it had lots of options and also a special Japanese breakfast area. There is also a Subway nearby if thats more your thing!!!!! The restaurant was closed when we went, but the eating area was very classy indeed.

Overall, we really enjoyed this hotel. If we come back, the Asahi will be right at the top of our list!!!

  • Liked — Rooms, staff, value for money and quiet
  • Disliked — The ill-fitting blinds on the windows
