“Overall Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

The best aspect of the hotel is the location as it is close (not walking distance) to the Dusseldorf Fairgrounds, if you have business to attend. I did have business visiting the Dusseldorf Boat Show.
The property is dated, all is functional but everything looks like it has been here awhile. They need to spend so money to upgrade......Everything seems dark.

“OK overall but poor service at Reception”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

As business hotels go in large cities the Renaissance Duesseldorf is pretty typical. We spent two nights at the hotel during the famous "Boot" show at the nearby exhibition centre. Consequently the hotel was pretty full.

Here's what we liked: taxis outside the hotel at all times, close proximity to the exhibition centre and airport, easy parking at an onsite, underground, secure carpark, the friendly porter who offered to help us with our bags, the size of the rooms, a large and secure safe in the room, a lovely powerful shower, plenty of towels in the room, great selection of TV channels, very friendly staff in the bar and restaurant and the food quality and choice.

What we didn't like: service at Reception. We appeared to be the only guests who believed in queuing but our irritation at that was only made worse by long queues and only one person on Reception. No apology either for keeping us waiting. Check-in took an unusually long time so when I went down to arrange internet access I was gone for so long (queuing behind people checking in) that my husband had started to wonder where I'd gone. That was another thing we were not impressed with - having to pay 12Euros PER DAY for weak internet access. The hotel is not cheap but there was no nice touch like a robe in the room. The air conditioning in the room was poor and we switched it off at night as it was quite noisy, but the room remained hot and stuffy even in chilly January.

We were here on business so the hotel was chosen for us by my company but if I had the choice, I'd look to stay somewhere else.

“Dated but Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

We had a free night so we added a night and came for the weekend. The hotel staff is very nice. Hotel itself has not been remodeled since it was built. It is close enough to the center and restaurants and easy access to visit other cities. Worth a stay. Not very expensive.

Room Tip: Rooms not facing the highway are quiet.

“Tired Hotel stuck in a time warp”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

Stayed here for the weekend to take advantage of the cheap weekend rate, but I decided to move somewhere else after the weekend as I wasn't too impressed.
My room was spacious and comfortable enough, but the furniture looked dated, in fact most of the hotel, and especially the lobby, feels like it is still stuck in the '80's.
Despite the atmosphere, the food in the restaurant was very nice and I thought good value for the area. Unfortunately this was let down by flies, which bothered me each time I ate in the restaurant. This was in December, so surely not from outside, suggesting some problem in the hotel. I mentioned this at check out and was told they are aware of it but haven't been able to solve the problem yet.
The main reason which led to my departure from the hotel was the wi-fi, if a hotel charges you for wi-fi you should expect a decent speed, unfortunately it was woefully slow here.
The lack of on-site gym was also another let-down.

“Great deal , friendly staff somewhat tired but will stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

The hotel is somewhat tired however the price reflects this. it is very clean. rooms are large and the staff are super friendly and helpful. The tram is a one minute walk and you can be in the old town in ten minutes,

Has a small indoor pool however it doesnt allow children under 4 in the pool ??? . We had to sneak our kids in and the staff turned a blind eye

We stay in Dusseldorf several times a year and this will be our only hotel from now on.
