Good hotel downtown Dusseldorf with friendly personel.

We used their parking lot but pls be sure to bring a small car since the entrance would be very narrow. We were welcomed by their receptionist with fairly OK manner but that was not exactly the way we expect it...she was a little non-accomodating. The direction to the room was complicated. This hotel was simply complicated and to reach your hotel room it would take you about 15-25 minutes just walking around the whole hotel because it was like a MAZE. THe lift was good for 2-3 persons without luggage (perhaps maximum 4 persons) but only 2 if each have luggages. The room and toilet was excellent with very clean linnen and bathroom. Very nice toiletries. We ordered coffee in the room since the room was not equipped with coffee maker...afetr waiting for 1 hour nothing came, so we called the room service again...and gladly after 10 minutes the coffee came. We were disappointed. We especially booked at this hotel because of their Sauna and swimming pool facility only to find out that the Sauna was only opened from 19.00 to 23.00. Very disappointing because our only time to spare was before that time. The breakfast buffet was excellent with variety of food. It was the first hotel I've ever encountered to have a soft-boiled egg to perfection at a perfect warm temperature. Very lovely. WIFI was not free.

Hotel is in a great location, near the Konigsalle shopping and a ten minute walk to the Altstadt. It has a nice lobby with an attached restaurant and bar. The room was minimal with 2 towels for 2 people, 1 soap, 1 shampoo and a double bed. No coffee in the room and internet charges were 20 Euro/night. The room faced the street and had the clanking of constant street cars from 4 AM until midnight. There was no way to muffle the noise.
The staff must have been trainees as they were either ignorant or uninformed on questions on street car travel, and location of sights. In fact we were told to take the wrong street car to see the new wharf area. We complained about the noise and were told that there was nothing that could be done. I am a frequent traveler (platinum) with the Holiday Inn chain and would say this one of the worst experiences that I have had with the hotel group. Despite the location, I would not recommend this hotel.

The Holiday Inn is centrally located at Konigsallee. The Konigsallee tram station is bang opposite the hotel. Hotel appears to have limited staff since they appear to be very busy. The hotel allows you to check in at 3pm, which is too late by any standard. Early check in is a strict 'no-no'. We were made to wait for 4 hours in the hotel lobby until we were allowed to check in 'sharp at 3pm'. You do not expect this after taking a long haul flight. The buffet breakfast was good and tasty, but with limited vegetarian options.The rooms are nice and clean, albiet a bit cramped. Be ready to pay a hefty charge for getting the TV channels and the Internet. All-in-all, an average experience.
