What an experience - super staff that made me feel comdfortable in a superbly appointed hotel - would definitely reccomend for both business and pleasure
For a city that houses Germany's fashion manufacturers, Dusseldorf is shockingly lacking in fashionable lodgings. Luckily the traditional Breidenbacher Hof has been taken over by the Capella group and given a modern facelift whilst retaining the hotel's old school charm.
The best thing about this hotel must be its location - situated squarely between the stylish newer shopping district and the old town. This means an easy stroll to either side to enjoy their respective offerings.
I enjoyed the residents-only lounge, open to all guests, which is like a club lounge but without food and alcohol. Rooms are sumptuous, spacious and comfortable with glamorous wood and marble bathrooms that have TVs set mysteriously behind mirrors.
As with many German establishments, breakfast is a feature, served elegantly in their Brasserie, but their room service meal was sadly not up to par with the standards the hotel has set for itself.
stayed 2 nights in this 5*Deluxe property which only opened 3 years ago in the heart of chic Dusseldorf. Located between on one side the Haute Couture stores and on the other side the old town and the Rhine river. Large extremely comfortable rooms with high-tech installations, comfy oversized bed, TV screen in the bathroom mirror, big shower stall and tub. I appreciated particularly the VIP lounge on ground floor, the fully equipped Technogym Fitness-room and the exquisite and extensive breakfast buffet with its home made yogurts, large variety of breads and cereals. Above all the very heartily and professional staff, very well managed hotel. Definitely one of Europe´s best Hotels.
In all my travels I have never seen experienced a hotel room conceived with such thoughtfulness and attention to detail as the one i occupied in the Breidenbacher Hof. Of course or the usual niceties were there; huge room, huge cupboards, bathroom with separate shower, free internet etc. What made this one stand out was the thought behind everything; the shower had a bench and two separate handles one for overhead and one for hand-held showers clearly marked with the design of each (for those of us who need glasses for everything!) There was a tailor made head cushion for the bath tub; a special toothbrush stand; the TV went on again at the channel you had switched off; there was a separate TV incorporated in the mirror of the bathroom with its own monitor; the safew was eye level and easy to operate; there was a slide out table in the large desk, so that i had my breakfast without moving paters etc; and much more. The decor itself was not of my taste, too gilded and formal but this did not prevent my enjoyment. Only hitch-- the all night drilling across the street, which apparently is legal; the hotel staff could only elegantly offer me (very efficient) ear plugs.
