“Old-World Style with 21st Century Trimmings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

For a city that houses Germany's fashion manufacturers, Dusseldorf is shockingly lacking in fashionable lodgings. Luckily the traditional Breidenbacher Hof has been taken over by the Capella group and given a modern facelift whilst retaining the hotel's old school charm.
The best thing about this hotel must be its location - situated squarely between the stylish newer shopping district and the old town. This means an easy stroll to either side to enjoy their respective offerings.
I enjoyed the residents-only lounge, open to all guests, which is like a club lounge but without food and alcohol. Rooms are sumptuous, spacious and comfortable with glamorous wood and marble bathrooms that have TVs set mysteriously behind mirrors.
As with many German establishments, breakfast is a feature, served elegantly in their Brasserie, but their room service meal was sadly not up to par with the standards the hotel has set for itself.

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for your recent visit in October and for your evaluation.

We appreciate your detailed description of the surrounding area, the interior and features of the hotel but also your constructive criticism regarding your room service experience. It points out a weak spot which we will immediately eliminate to offer a service which corresponds to the high standards we stand for. We hope you to accept our apologies for the adversity and will prove better once you are staying again at the Breidenbacher Hof, a Capella hotel.

Please always be welcome.

Kind regards,

“Top of the Top”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

stayed 2 nights in this 5*Deluxe property which only opened 3 years ago in the heart of chic Dusseldorf. Located between on one side the Haute Couture stores and on the other side the old town and the Rhine river. Large extremely comfortable rooms with high-tech installations, comfy oversized bed, TV screen in the bathroom mirror, big shower stall and tub. I appreciated particularly the VIP lounge on ground floor, the fully equipped Technogym Fitness-room and the exquisite and extensive breakfast buffet with its home made yogurts, large variety of breads and cereals. Above all the very heartily and professional staff, very well managed hotel. Definitely one of Europe´s best Hotels.

“The most thought-through room I have ever stayed in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

In all my travels I have never seen experienced a hotel room conceived with such thoughtfulness and attention to detail as the one i occupied in the Breidenbacher Hof. Of course or the usual niceties were there; huge room, huge cupboards, bathroom with separate shower, free internet etc. What made this one stand out was the thought behind everything; the shower had a bench and two separate handles one for overhead and one for hand-held showers clearly marked with the design of each (for those of us who need glasses for everything!) There was a tailor made head cushion for the bath tub; a special toothbrush stand; the TV went on again at the channel you had switched off; there was a separate TV incorporated in the mirror of the bathroom with its own monitor; the safew was eye level and easy to operate; there was a slide out table in the large desk, so that i had my breakfast without moving paters etc; and much more. The decor itself was not of my taste, too gilded and formal but this did not prevent my enjoyment. Only hitch-- the all night drilling across the street, which apparently is legal; the hotel staff could only elegantly offer me (very efficient) ear plugs.

“Booked to stay two nights - ended up staying four!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We initially decided to stay here for two nights and ended up staying for four. We didn't quite get what we had booked but we left feeling satisfied that the hotel more than made up for any errors or dissatisfaction we had had with their failing to meet the package we had booked. The hotel room we had was spacious with extra chairs to sit in, the decor stylish and the bathroom beautifully appointed. Despite a bit of wear in the hallways, no doubt from large suitcases being moved - the rooms showed absolutely no signs of wear and tear and were a delight to lounge around in. It was great to soak in the bath, whilst being able to watch TV with your own remote control - different to the one in the main bedroom. Housekeeping did come and clean our room when we called to ask them to clean it - but when we left the electronic sign on they didn't until we turned the sign off. Housekeeping were also a little intrusive in that we put the "do not disturb" sign on and they decided to come knocking on our door to see if we wanted our room cleaned.

If you're tired of lounging in your room and want somewhere else to hang there is the "living room" downstairs refreshments such as espresso and a selection of teas and always fresh fruit are always available - just like you would find at home.
If you're not sure what to do or where to go there is also the personal assistant desk in the living room to ask for helpful advice, or to assist you in booking a rental vehicle, or basically where is what in Dusseldorf. Malte in particular was friendly and helpful.
For shopping: the location is right on the doorstep of Konigsallee, the upmarket boutique shopping area of the city, but also on the edge of the Altstadt (Old City) and less than a few minutes walk from a large variety of department stores (including one right across the road).
For walking: parks are almost across the road, and walking through the Altstadt down and along the river is wonderful.
There are also some really good restaurants close by, and the five course dinner we had at the hotel's brasserie restaurant was truly great value for money. The breakfasts were very good and the wait staff were very attentive.
A taxi from the the airport to the hotel is only 20 Euros (one way) - alternatively you can book a limousine with the hotel for more than 5 times that price. The choice is yours.

There appear to be some road works going on at the moment across the road from the main entrance to the hotel - somewhat diminishing the outlook from the city view rooms -but this does not affect you if you choose a courtyard facing room.

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for choosing the Breidenbacher Hof, a Capella hotel, as your residence in September this year!

It was our pleasure to accommodate you and, even more, to make you feel like being at home in a relaxing and warm atmosphere.

We appreciate your most detailed description of your stay with us, which reflects the range of opportunities our guests have to enjoy their time being with us in the centre of the lively and cosmopolitan Duesseldorf city centre.

However, we appreciate your constructive criticism regarding the housekeeping, which should have been more sensitive. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused and for our initial failure to provide the package you had booked. We always strive not to only meet but to exceed our guest’s expectations. Therefore we are happy to read that we were able to provide even more than expected to make up for the errors.

Again, thank you for taking the time to report about your visit. Please always be welcome at the Breidenbacher Hof and let us know if there is anything we can do for you as we appreciate you as a valued customer.

Kind regards,

“GREAT STAY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2011

We enjoyed the hotel and it's location within historic Dusseldorf.

We were prepared for the decline in the USD against the EURO but when the hotel bar charged 18 Euros for an American Whiskey cocktail ($25.00USD) we were overwhelmed.

We elected to eat at the many great Dusseldorf bristos and restaurants which are in walking distance to the Hotel.

Other than feeling that the bar was overpriced, the rooms are luxurious, the service staff outstanding and the location hard to beat!

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for choosing the Breidenbacher Hof on your recent visit in June.
We are grateful that you positively evaluated your stay and communicated your experience. Your comments show that you did enjoy your time here and that you did appreciate the caring staff, the luxury and ideal location of the hotel.

However, you found it hard to sympathize with the pricing of the whiskey in the award winning Capella Bar. Considering the wide range of 90 different whiskeys among even more spirits as well as cocktails, life music and the educated and trained team members the pricing might appear as justified.

If private or for business, we hope to see you again the next time you are in Dusseldorf.
Please always be welcome.
