we chose this hotel for the rate and proximity to westfallenhalle,we paid 82 euros/night without breakfast (booked 3 days prior to arrival),the westfallenhalle was literrally across the street (bridge over motorway behind pullman hotel.)10 mins by cab from city center.front of desk staff was very pleasant and fast.Rooms are very very spacious and nicely decorated in 50's -60's style,the beds were very comfortable too. The only things missing were the tea/coffee facilities and a bathtub.Bathrooms are tiny compared tothe size of the room but there is plenty of hot water.Breakfast was served in the room as requested(4 euros extra),and was very tasty.We had a few drinks at the bar the previous night and the bartenders were so professionnal and helpful! Will definitely go back when in dortmund ( the best western quoted double room for 165 euros for the same night and is just a few mins away.)

I stayed in Steigenberger Dortmund for 3 nights in June 2010. The first thing that catches the eye is the cleanliness of rooms, nice beds, comfortable pillows (even an extra pillow in the drawer!), clean sheets. The rooms are spacious and offer comfortablity. The TV is quite old (not LCD). Breakfast was great with lots of choices available. The ladies at the front reception desk were nice and friendly as well as being very helpful providing guide for city access, etc. The W-Lan internet connection is not free and the fee is very expensive with download speed of 128 kbps which is not interesting and sometimes there was no connection at all.
The hotel is located far from the city center (Rheinold Kirche or Westenhellweg). The nearest underground station is Kreuzstr. which is 1 km. away. The streets around don't offer much for a tourist but the Westfallenhalle is nearby and the Dortmund stadium is also nearby. There are parking places available for cars but in a limited number. The lifts are old and a pain in the neck! The bars and restaurants are located in the lobby and the waiters/waitresses are very polite and helpful with variety of food and drinks available but if you are a foreigner don't ever go for a German cuisine and food because it is really junk!
All in all my stay at Steigenberger was memorable but really if I have to choose to stay again in Dortmund, I will choose a hotel which is nearby the city center.

poor breakfast

We stayed here for 2 nights in March 2007. We went to Dortmund to watch our son compete in an athletics tournament at the Helmut-Kornig Arena which is part of the Westfalenhallen Complex. The hotel and rooms were clean, the staff more than helpful and the breakfast was plentiful, hot and very good value. The Steigenberger is situated just a 10 minute walk from the complex and a 5/10 minute taxi ride into the centre Dortmund. A great 4 star hotel at 3 star prices. Highly recommended!!!
