We arrived at the hotel for a 3 night stay, first impressions were that it was a lovely old hotel. We got our key and then climbed the 4 flights of stairs to our room. When we reached the landing that our room was on we smelled the damp, when we opened our room door which was room 28 the damp smell was even stronger. The shower had at some point leaked through to the bedroom there was a large damp stain on the wall but it was the smell that was hard to bear. The heating did not work well only half the radiator in bathroom heated up though we did have a little fan heater that we left on constantly, there was no hot water for almost a day, the towels in the bathroom were threadbare, the pillows were as flat as pancakes I am sure this room was originally a single room as we could not move around it at the same time. There was a lovely view over the Rhine (plus point) but window was so small that only one of us could look out at the same time. The net curain fell of when window was opened in fact the window almost fell out at one point. We ate in the restaurant for the first night and the food was pleasant but nothing special. This hotel cost us almost 600euro for 3 nights, this was not cheap and the price was inflated due to an exhibition and the Kolne Messa. I would not stay here again and the only reason this hotel is getting a 2 rather than a 1 is due to the location and the view.
