“Better for business than pleasure”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2011

Very basic but does the job with out spending too much money. Its very handy for conferences held nearby at the enormous conference complex. Very close to a supermarket and tram stop that takes you into the city. Rooms are basic and very humid in spring and summer. Dont be fooled by the nice bar and reception area, the rest of the hotel is not to this standard unfortunately. The breakfast is great but you have to be there early, it goes fast.

“Value for money, 10 min from center of Cologne”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2011

Stayed here 2 nights in April. Hotel offers good value and is a 10 minute drive away from the city center across one of the two bridges.

Rooms: found the rooms adequate, but missed a table beside the bed to put my mobile phone on. Rooms are small, but O.K. for a short stay. The rooms facing Gaussstrasse are hot in the summer as from 1PM till sunset the sun shines directly on the windows. No airconditioning. Rooms facing the Deutz-Müllheimer Strasse might not have this problem, but will hear every 1 hour an ICE (high speed train) rushing by (railway is 10 metres away). No noise at the Gausstrasse rooms. Would recommend the rooms at Juliusstrasse, they are quiet located away from street/train noise.

Breakfast: extensive for this price paid. Good selection of some juices, fresh coffee (beans are mixed by the machine directly), several German breads, cheese and ham and some hot items such as bacon and scrambled eggs.

Nothing to do in the neighbourhood as it is a messe hotel. Bar of the hotel is OK, nothing special. Would recommend this hotel for a budget-stay for a 2/3 day visit to Cologne or a 1-2 day stay at the Messe: it's sufficient. Car is recommended for dining options, nothing we could find in the neighbourhood.

Visit in Cologne the Rhein Park, make a trip with the Seilbahn to the Zoo, visit the Zoo, go on to the St. Martin's Kirche and the Kölner Dom and have a drink at the Rhein. Visit the Lindt Chocolade Museum and you'll cover 2 days or evenings after the Messe conference.

Have your expectations, this is not a Radission / Hilton, just a simple hotel with a good breakfast for a low price. Internet is € 4,95 in the lobby.

Room Tip: Juliusstrasse rooms: away from street noise

“Tries hard but fails in some aspects... Still ok.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2011

We have staid here 3 times now, last time was last weekend (2nights). We like the hotel because of the location, free parking and easy connection to the city centre by tram.
We were pleasantly surprised to see that the hotel is being completely restyled in a contemporary way.
Rooms are very small but adequate for a weekend, all you need really for a city trip. Beds too soft (and small/short) for our liking but that's a personal thing. Bathrooms small but clean. The hotel is located right next to the train rails but apart from the hourly intercity trains it doesn't really bothered us. Not too noisy to sleep at all.
The first morning we came down for breakfast at 9.30 and we were dissapointed to see thet a lot of items ran out (bacon, croissants, some rolls...). We asked but were told that they had nothing left of these. A pity so we decided to have breakfast the day after at 8.30. The second morning when we came down, we saw 2 croissants left. No bacon again though, ran out... Dissapointing again.
The good part was that we asked for a late check out (3pm) and this was no problem at all. Nice. No free wifi in the hotel but I find this the case in most German hotels.
Would we stay again? Yes we would, we always got a good price and it does the job for a weekend break, especially when you come by car.

“Does what it says on the tin”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2010

We booked the hotel as our first choice - the next tram stop nearer to the city centre - was twice as expensive due to a trade convention at the Messehalle. Don't be put off by the view when you arrive - the flapping plastic sheets at the top of frontage and metal structure standing forlornly in front of the entrance (watch the step - it's a big drop) - and the abandoned industrial buildings over the road suggest urban desolation but this is an area in transition. And the hotel's being refurbished - so no underground car park (but you're fine parking on the road). Inside the reception is better - it feels like a standard chain hotel.
The rooms were small but clean and the beds were especially comfortable - we all slept very well. Breakfast was good and straightforward, even if the layout meant a bottleneck to get to the coffee and hot food.
Broadband wasn't free; given this hotel is geared for business at the conference centre this seems an omission.
It's a ten minute walk through a quiet residential area to the tram station - and it's an efficient service into the centre.
All in all, this is an unpretentious hotel that provides a comfortable bed, no-frills breakfast and is in a quiet location. Check the rates - these may spike during the big conferences.

“Christmas in Koln”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2008

Stayed here with my Girlfriend for 3 days in December to vist the xmas markets.

This hotel is not in a tourist area it is however a 3 minute walk to the tram stop where the trams are very frequent. This hotel would not have been suitable due to its location for us if were not for the amazing transportation system.

The hotel itself was nice enough, very frielndly english speaking staff who could not do more for you. The room was a nice size and the breakfast was of a typical quality with a wide choice.

The only downside was the lack of things to do in the immediate vacinity in the evening. If it was though summer with the weather being warm there is a square about a 20 minute walk or 5 minute tram ride away, alternativly purchasing an all day tram ticket would allow access back into Koln. With the trams running early morning to late evening this would be more than accptable

I am planning to go back and use Koln as a base to tour other cities in the area due to the amazing transportation. I will definalty be staying in this hotel again.
