2-night stay in late Dec 2011 - rooms 101 and 102 which are at the end of a corridor, away from main lobby and front of hotel. Nice and quiet.
Rooms were standard sized for Europe, we had one person in each room. Bathrooms are tiny but who spends much time in there? Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. WiFi worked perfectly and was free. Lobby, hallways, steps, inside and out -- all very clean and tidy. The building and lobby was beautifully decorated for the holiday.
While the main street, Hansaring, was busy with traffic, we explored the neighborhood directly behind this hotel and it was pure delight. Quiet streets with a couple noisy bars that night but we found some lovely restaurants and shops. Very relaxing. We had dinner at a small Italian restaurant. Delicious authentic.
Hotel is an enjoyable city block's walk from the Metro in a safe area. We found really easy to maneuver Cologne and glad we choose this hotel. Less tourist traffic.
I have to tell you, THE BEST part of our stay was the hotel breakfast. Oh my goodness, talk about a treat. Very warm, relaxing, almost elegant dining area with a homey feeling to it. The lady hostess was very friendly, smiling, and helpful. The food offerings were vast. Meats, freshly made breads, fresh fruits and juices, cheeses, cereals, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, coffees, teas, so much and so many choices. Their jams were lovely (tasted homemade).
The presentation of the food was lovely as well.
I highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again myself.
Booked in June 2011 for stay in Dec 2011 = 110 Euro for two nights, each room. Great price!
