“Good for the Christmas markets”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2007

The Lint is a very modern boutique style hotel although I think it was a little pricey for what is in reality posh Ikea style with no bath and no wardrobe. The rooms have a lovely juliet style balconey overlooking a small square although we found this to be quite noisy at night (it was 2 weekends before Christmas though)

Location wise it is brilliant near the main sights and in the Altstadt. We had two great Christmas markets around the corner and several more within walking distance. This was the main attraction for us. The catherdral and some of the surviving churches are spectacular but a lot of the city was very heavily bombed and consists of some ugly modern architecture. There are also loads of building sites.

We visited the Medieval Market on the Rhine which was next to the Lind museum (chocolate heaven) The queues were too big for the tour but we enjoyed the shop!

Breakfast was fine but we were so stuffed out with gluhwein and sausages that we had little appetite. We did really enjoy a bierkeller restaurant near the hotel called the Gaffel. Very recommended if you like good hearty german foods and there is an english menu translation avail although the place is not touristy at ll. Really friendly staff who sqeezed us in despite the place being full (everyone shares tables- don't expect an intimate meal and people smoke all over)

Cologne was great for Christmas and there is definately enough to keep you busy for a weekend. The hotel was well located and quite trendy although it lacked any real personality.

“Great little hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2007

This is a wonderful small hotel in a great location. It is off a square--or large open space--not really a square--down a tiny street and a short walk to the dom. There are plenty of places to eat nearby. We had a car and were anxious to get rid of it as quickly as possible. There is an underground parking garage just on the city center side of the bridge as you come in from the north and a stair or elevator takes you right up to the open space a block or so from the hotel. The rooms were sleekly modern. We enjoyed our stay.

“Lovely stay in Köln, lovely breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2007

I spent a lovely weekend in Köln during which I stayed in the Lint hotel. It is very well situated, less than ten minutes walking from the Cathedral and just a few steps from the romanesque church of Gross St. Martin (superb as a matter of fact).

The room was clean, although not too big, with a balcony to Gross St.
Martin platz, which is a little and quiet square,. The breakfast was included in the 129 euros the room costed me and my wife and it was really pleasant since it was warm and the place where you take the breakfast was open to the Square and you could see Gross St. Martin (I just missed some croissants in the breakfast).

And Köln is OK to visit, with a magnificent Gothic cathedral and some beautiful romanesque churches, lot of shopping, and students
"fiesta".

“Nice hotel, but staff member diminished experience.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2007

First, the pros: Ideally situated, clean and modern. It is a few minute stroll to the Cathedral Dom / metro. You can also walk to all the main museums within minutes. There are plenty of nightlife and dining options right outside your door. It is in the Aldstadt (old town) and is in a pedestrian-only zone, so it really is quaintly situated. There is a taxi stand a mere block away. All in all, the price is very fair for what you get. The breakfast was fresh and satisfying - an array of meats, cheeses, bread and cereal.

In fairness, three of the four staff we encountered were helpful and kind. However, the fourth, a young man, really left a sour taste in our mouths. We arrived during Karnivale so the streets were overflowing with people. Our first night, we asked where we could get dinner and he said it's Karnivale, shrugged and said, "Good luck." We took it in stride - no big deal - and found an Italian restaurant half a block away. What was a huge deal was the morning we left when, again, due to the festivities, taxis were not operating at the stand per usual. We spoke with the front desk the night before at which point we were assured they would call a cab for us to be there for our international departure the next day. 8 AM the next day the breakfast was not set up (it "started" at 7:15 AM). We inquired about the cab, at which point he shrugged again. We asked him to call. He put the phone to his ear, looked outside, and told us there was no taxi. Not sure if he even called - he just walked off. My friend and I were baffled and flustered and began running around the streets with our luggage searching for a way to the airport. Thanks! With service like that, if I'm ever in Cologne I will stay somewhere else.

“Great little hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2006

A great little hotel, clean and modern and located very centrally. Just a 5 - 10 minute walk to the main train station / cathedral and the helpful and friendly staff will e-mail you directions. Also very near to the two best Christmas markets, and not far to the boat and medieval markets (not as good as the Cathedral and Alter Markt markets). Also located to lots of nice beer houses where you can find plenty of filling and tasty meals!
The hotel provides a very good breakfast, as much as you can eat - bread, rolls, cereal, jams etc, cheese and ham, fruit, eggs and some kind of fruit muesli-thing (quite tasty).
The hotel is generally pretty quiet although there are a couple of pubs which back onto it and there can be a bit of noise from them - but I wouldn't let that put you off.
All in all, this is a great hotel at a very reasonable price and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it - or to stay there again.
If you're going for the Christmas markets consider making a day trip to Bonn which is a lovely little town and the markets there are a bit nicer!
