“Unique and artsy place in the middle of Cologne.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2010

While the Savoy may appear ugly and unspectacular from the outside, as a 70s concrete block next to the loud Turiner Straße, it really is a spectacular jewel among Cologne hotels. Frequented buy the very liberal intelligentsia and art scene of the city, you will always meet a well know face in the lobby. The bar is perfectly equipped from Champagne to the hard stuff, and their is a fantastic roof top, but the real highlight are the suites, each of them individualized. Spend for example a night "Out of Africa", with zebra skins and a juge bath tub of black marble, under an artificial, glimmering nightly skye covered with stars.
Besides, the Hotel is well located next to Cologne's Central Train Station.

“Savoy Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2009

An excellent hotel. Location is very central, with Dom Blick, as they say in german.
The staff was very friendly and cool, the rooms spacious and well-furnished. I highly recommend the hotel - ideal for a ONS;-))

“Looking for something romantic and special? Don`t stay here!”

We booked a Suite Mandarin: Poor cleaning. DVD player did not work. No deluxe spa products on room (as promised in hotel prospect!)
Spa Treatments: OK, but offered "Luxurious fingerfood" to be found next morning at breakfast buffet, too. So not special at all.
Single massage treatments were OK, but again, not super special.
Room service: Very poor, ignoring all better service rules (opening expensive wine bottle hidden)
Champagner breakfast in room: Super poor, don`t book it!! Better and nicely decorated selection at b`fast buffet downstairs, we have not been asked for tea or coffee selection, just been served filtered coffee. Super poor.
Garage fees: No mention upon arrival, but big invoice for check-out (admitting the difference online at hrs.com and their own leaflet).
Although they offered room upgrade compensation...never again!!! Spent 1400Euros - not worth it!!

“A fun place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2007

The Savoy is one of Cologne's cheapest ***** hotels. It is situated in one of the worst parts of downtown, behind the railway station, which combines red light areas, heavy construction sites, and, well, otherwise dangerous quarters as well. But it is more easily accessible by car than almost all others, it has some nice views, and it is 5-7 mins. on foot from the train station. It is a non-tourist area, which has its advantages for small shopping, cheap restaurants, etc. In less than 10 mins., you are on foot at the Ringe. The Golden Chamber of St. Ursula, where the wall is decorated with gilt wood and the bones of some of the 11,000 martyred virgins and other saints, is 5 minutes away.

The Savoy is heavily decorated, generally in a very gaudy, colorful way, but this is fun. Indian and Chinese rooms feel like (nice) decorated restaurants, or movie sets. The breakfast room is now a dream in silver lamé and much, much purple, mostly taffeta and velvet. If you want minimalism, this is not the place for you - then stay at the Hilton or the Interconti, or - cheaper - the Lint.

Breakfast is good, service is very nice; there is a fancy, well-renowned spa, but this is very expensive (normal treatments from ~ $300) and not included, and it doesn't have a pool. The restaurant and its bar are, not surprisingly, favorites of the media people in Cologne, and many a visiting soap star or singer stays here.

a fantastic hotel with original styling, we got an upgrade to the bora bora suite, I have never seen so many artifacts packed into a hotel room...amusing, provocative yet very comfortable, with a view of the cathederal so near you could almost feed the pidgeons from your 5th floor window! the staff were all genuinely friendly, the bar/cafe had a real buzz. Highly recommended!
