This hotel is located at the old site of the first German university, formerly a dominican priory. The new building is part of a larger complex including a luxury home for the elderly. As a result if you use the swimmingpool or sauna you will be confronted with a majority of senior Germans (especially during the morning). The hotel itself is centered towards German tourists which may result in the fact that even at the reception you will always be addressed in German, not everybody talks English. It's a great modern hotel (hard to find in Cologne) with a good location. Breakfast is great and the small crew is very professional. Bad point is that there are no in-room coffee or tea making facilities and the bathroom lacks a bathrobe (which is strange for a partly wellness hotel). Information at the desk could be better as we saw a lot of first time guests struggling with the way the elevator works. In the room a 0,5 liter water bottle is tempting the thursty guest. They ask 5,5 euro for it. In the nearby railwaystation I was able to buy a 1 liter bottle of Cava champagne for 3,99, for comparison...So buy your stuff in the neighbourhood. There is a day/night shop nearby.
