“Very good hotel, easy parking, good public transport links... pricey wifi though”
This is a good hotel - in one short sentence!
Our room was spotlessly clean and reasonably spacious, though a small criticism is that it lacked a mini bar. The bed was really comfortable and we both had a fantastic night's sleep. Check in staff were polite and helpful and the visit, which was only for one night, was overall very enjoyable. Breakfast was of good quality, and there was a good selection to choose from - the usual fare you'd expect from a European hotel.
It is useful there is secure underground parking for 12 Euros a day at the hotel. The hotel is opposite the tram stop which makes it useful to get into the city and is easily accessible from the motorway. An added bonus is the hotel isn't in Cologne's congestion zone (though when I e-mailed for clarification of this, I never received a response, which was disappointing).
A small downfall is the high charge for wifi - this shouldn't be the case now, as the night before we had stayed in a budget Etap hotel and wifi was completely free! Come on Mercure - get yourselves sorted out!
Overall this hotel was delightful to stay in, for exploring Cologne and the surrounding area, with easy car parking and good public transport links if you need them.
