Very clean, very efficient, windows and doors shut perfectly, so that not one cubic inch of warm air is wasted. Everything you could expect from a German hotel of this price range. Except for charm. My room was also very small, as it was a single room. But it is very conveniently located close to the Dom, the rail station and many restaurants.

Stayed for the 4th or 5th time at the Cristall. Great location for the station and a quick walk into the city.

Rooms clean and tidy, breakfast lovely and there is a hotel bar for a drink to round off the evening.

We booked a standard double room for our overnight stay in Cologne in December, 2011. While the website presents a super trendy hotel, the convenient lighting and clever photography masks a rather standard hotel. The entrance and what I call the canteen area are both underwhelming upon arrival. The staff quite cold and annoyed looking (not the usual experience for me at German hotels). And the standard rooms...well, Holiday Inns feel a bit more plush and comfortable. There's a freaky paining waiting to greet you, which can luckily be turned around to reveal a mirror. The bathrooms were pokey. The beds uncomfortable. The rooms in a confused state of wanting to be trendy vs. wanting to be a hospital room. But did we mind so much after all the gluhwein at the Christmas Markets? Not so much...but still, for the price we paid, we could have found something far more comfortable with more value for money.
Plus point, it's a few minutes walk to the main station. Would I stay again? ...nah.

We stayed at the Crystall for three nights as a party of 14 and had a very good time. The hotel was very central and offered a good breakfast and clean rooms. Some people facing the main road said there was some noise at night but our room was at the back and very quiet.
The bed was comfortable and the staff all very friendly and helpfull.

A good central hotel for a city break
