I recently visited Cologne to take in the sights and sounds of the Christmas Markets. I wanted to stay in a hotel close to the main markets and picked the Hotel Mondial am Dom.
I checked in, but importantly was welcomed to the Hotel, I had just arrived following a long drive and having a nice welcome really makes you feel comfortable from the start.

The room was well appointed with all that you would expect, it was quiet and spotlessly clean. The bathroom was a comfortable size with a shower over the bath.

The communal areas were also immaculately clean, with a reading area, and quiet zone just off from the main lobby. The onsite bar was a traditional German bar, and the staff there were extremely helpful.

In terms of location it was spot on. Right outside the Cathedral, with its Market and a 3 min walk to the Alter Market. Fantastic. There is a u-Bahn station at the the front of the cathedral (maybe 5 mins walk), and the river is close by also.

My only 2 gripes with the hotel, 1 - very minor, but arriving at night I had a spot of difficulty finding the hotel car park. 2 - as Mentioned by other users the cost of breakfast is a little steep. That said there is a fantastic selection of foods for breakfast which should be enough to keep anyone going!

Beautiful hotel & you can't beat the location. Rooms were 5 star quality. We stayed here during xmas time (super close to the amazing xmas markets) and so they had a 50% off deal going on (always look for loyalty programs with hotels to get discounts) which made this a great value place for us to stay. Full price it would have been way too much for us but it is a beautiful hotel & I'm very happy we got to stay here. The buffet breakfast is expensive at 24 euro but it will be the best breakfast you have ever had. You can justify the price by stuffing yourself and not eating lunch later; it is entirely worth it.

The Hotel is very well placed for the Cathedral, station and shops. The room was lacking in drawer space but I understand that other rooms have more wardrobe space.

I understand that the roadworks outside are about to finish after 8 years.

All the staff are helpful and courteous.

Try and get a deal including breakfast as the cost is €24 but it is very good.
